Can someone please explain the 3 red lights to me. (knock on wood)

Can someone explain this to me please? I have gotten it a few times when the power has gone out. Is that normal? When is it supposed to happen and what effect does it give you when it does. What should I do?

Mine has done that after the power has gone out, too. It indicates that you've had a general hardware failure. It's kind of an "oh shit, don't know what happened, but it's not good" from the 360. After the RROD, mine has booted right back up again after I turned it off.

I'd say don't mess with it. Keep it as it is. I've heard that it is a very bad idea to hook your 360 up to a UPS--that would be the only way to fix your problem. In fact MS 2nd tier support as well as people in the forums told me not to hook up my 360 to a UPS. Supposedly that huge 5 lb. power brick that you plug in has surge protection sufficient for the 360's needs.

Yes, a general hardware failure. Apparently EVERY 360 has this problem (accordng to this website http://www.fastsilicon.com/latest-news/microsoft-admits-all-xbox360s-are-defective.html?Itemid=60 )

I've had the problem 3 times now.....well, twice red rings, other time was a different problem. The red rings went away on me the last time, but eventually came back and stayed. Now, I'm waiting for my console to arrive in Texas and wait for my new one to ship out.

Just be aware, they ALL have the issue.

Never heard about the UPS issue. I have mine in a Power Strip, not sure why that would cause failures....seems odd.

Don't worry about it if it only happens when the power goes out. It isn't the end of the world. It isn't a sign of impending doom. And anyone that tries to tell you otherwise is a moron.

If it happens other times, then you have a potential problem.

Yeah, the power outage is one thing....you are correct on that. Although, I've been lucky enough for it to die on me w/o any power outage....go me.
