Cash refunds- limits?

CAGiversary!
I almost bought a laptop from CompUSA, but I noticed that they limit cash refunds to $250. Above that, you get a check mailed from their main office. I don't have a credit card, so I guess this matters to me. AFAIK, Circuit City is the only one of the major B&M electronics stores that has no limit on refunds... is that right?

Ok, I just have to ask, why does it matter?

On the off chance that you are returning a laptop (unless that is your plan all along, in which case that is a pretty nepherious plan, and lame) and they send you a refund check you can deposit it into a checking or savings accont at your bank. You don't need at credit card, but everyone should have a checking or savings account. In the case that you're not old enough to get one of these without a parent, I'm thinking why in the world do you have that much cash?

heh, anyway, the way I see it those cash refund limits make sense, otherwise the store could be going broke everydau refunding items worth thousands of dollars. and why would you want to carry arround thousands of dollars if you don't have to? Just unwise.

Well, I don't have a bank account. I wouldn't be able to return a laptop after using it, since every store has restocking fees, which would work out to a few hundred dollars on a laptop. And we're not talking about thousands of dollars, but anything over $250.

It seems to me that if a store is willing to take my cash money, they should be willing to refund it, too. There shouldn't be a difference between cancelling a credit card charge, and giving a customer back the cash they paid.

Their shouldn't be.... but there is. What eve 50 people all came back wanting to return $1000 items? Do you think stores carry $50000 in cash? If they did, I think they'd be robbed a bit more. If they do... what the fuck do I know?

Oh yea... why does it matter? You don't buy a computer to use for the weekend... Make sure you want it before you get it.
