I really want to pick up a new standalone player for when the 360 is out of date and just to have the opportunity to have a spare on hand. Anyways, what is the best place to get one of the toshiba players?

If nothing is good I'll just hit up Costco when I go home this weekend.

I've been following ebay prices the past few days to see if I could find something cheap and it seems costco with the free movies is your best bet if you have any interest in the movies. If the movies make no difference you'll save a little on ebay, but not much yet (I hope that changes soon)

Wait a while. Soon they will be dirt cheap all over. By then though youll probably realize you dont want one anyways though.

See I actually already have movies so I want a player that doesn't require a 360 to use.

I don't really follow all the HD movie news since I don't have an HDTV, but isn't HD DVD the loser and Blu Ray the winner? I don't understand why you'd want to buy into a format that's already been declared dead.

Cheap hi-def movies. Some places are already having great deals on some HD-DVD movies, and things will only get better. I bought the $50 HD-DVD 360 add-on, even though I already have a PS3. I'll be able to get a ton of movies on the cheap.

The whole point of owning movies on DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-ray is that you watch them more than once...if you only watched them once, you would rent/digital download.

you can also use it as a dvd upconverter. Plus there are movies on HD DVD that are not yet available on Blu-ray, and since it's a dead format prices will keep dropping. That's fine with me.

I guess, but what are you going to do about new movies?

Same thing he is doing now. By them on DVD or get a blu ray player. Most people only buy mo vies they anticipate watching more than once. The Ocean's trilogy was on sale at Amazon for $40 on HD-DVD. It may be a while before it hits that cheap on blu-ray. Or even DVD. If you know you want it in your collection, why not get it on HD-DVD. There are people with laser disks that swear the LD version of Star Wars is still the best version. And LD was basically still born.

I have Star Wars the orignal trilogy on Laser Disc, it was only better when you couldn't get the non bastardized version on Laser Disc but then those original came to dvd as the Limited edition plain DD 2.0 1993 laser disc version as the bonus disc for the Han didn't shoot first version.

Its also always hard to watch Laser Disc now because you have to flip them and with dvd one has become used to no flipping. I don't even bother with my Lasers anymore the player is just this huge dust collector that can play music cds.....ha ha ha
