What is the best/cheapest way to get a Wii U gamepad/ touch pad? I have found someone through Craigslist who is selling off their Wii U console because the touch pad broke and with the warranty Nintendo just sent them an all new system to replace their broken pad. Right now I can get the system for $80. Getting a replacement controller from Nintendo would cost about $150 from what I hear, putting me at $230 for a working Wii U with no games. At that price I don't see to much savings to justify buying the "broken" system. Any advice on getting a cheap controller would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah unless you found a seperate one on ebay as well I don't think there is any other way to get a gamepad. They are only available through Nintendo and there aren't any third party options.

I think they'd still charge $150 for a brand new one it'd have to be covered under warranty otherwise and you'd have to send it in.

The Wii U hasn't been out for too long and Nintendo has one of the coolest customer service departments out of the 3 companies. It would be worth a shot maybe.

Thanks guys for some pointers. I will call Nintendo when I can to see what can be done. Also if I were to buy a controller off of ebay would it be able to sync up easily?

I'm thinking that a warranty claim would be a no go, since (if I'm reading this right) the person selling the system already filed a warranty claim on that system and was sent a complete replacement. I'd think the serial on the system that the claim was filed for would be marked and upon pulling it up, would show that a replacement system was already sent out and is no longer covered.

I doubt Nintendo would allow a double-claim on one console, given the circumstances.

I claimed the warranty on my Wii three seperate times within one year and it was fixed for free every time.

But did they ship you a new one and let you keep the old broken one?

There is one at a local pawn shop, just sitting in the case with the iPads, so they have no idea what it is. I'll price check it tomorrow for you.

Nah but turn-arounds were only a week. I think the drive went twice and then they said fuck it and sent a new one out. Then again this was ~2006-07 so things might have changed.

My Wii had a failing GPU for a while now. It's many years out of warranty - I've had it maybe 5 or 6 years at this point. Anyway, they wanted to charge me and I argued, raised my voice, and was generally an ass to the CSR until he offered to give me a discount of 25% which I rejected and told him he needs to stand by his products and fix this thing because this should never have happened. He offered me 50%. I yelled at him and was told to calm down or I would have to call him back. I calmed down and insisted over and over I get a free repair. After 45 min on the line he gave me a free repair.
