Anyone want to fill me in on any secrets or coupons to get cheaper or free Xbox Live? I've never had it before, I just got the 360, I want Xbox Live on it.

Can you stack those 2 months trial cards you get in games?

I know there's gotta be something...heh.

Any help is appreciated.

doubt you can stack. before pre 360 they only allowed you to use a trial card once. best bet is to look for an older xbox live kit that is discounted. the cards should be still valid for the 12 months.

or I used one of the coupons from Best Buy discount $10 off gaming accessories toward a 12month kit :)

i'm not sure on the 360 how it works.. but on the xbox you can use the 2 month trial and before it is up cancel it then use another free trial.. i don't know if you can do that on the 360.. but its really not *that* expensive especially for what you get its a steal.

You can't stack the coupons. You want free online gaming with X-Box live? Use X-Box connect. www.xboxconnect.com Read up on how to do it, you use a crossover cable to hook your X-Box to your computer and use your computer's connection and xboxconnect.com to play others online. You can even do it with 56k, I haven't tried it though because I can't find a crossover cable, but once I get one I'll tell you how it works for 56k.

yeah to the best of my understanding you can't keep using 2 months on the same gamertag...you get a new one. so if stats /friendlists aren't that important to you then you should use up your supply of 2 months. otherwise use the 2 month to get started then either pay 6 bucks a month or 50 a year.

also, i agree XBC doesn't hold a candle to XBL. you could try it and it's good for HALO 1, but i'd recommend biting the bullet and getting the full effect of the xbox.

The new Xbox Live Gold 12-month Starter Kits that were released with the 360 come with a coupon for $20 of a 360 game. I don't know the details of the coupon though. I don't know if it's like a rebate that you can redeem for a game you already got, or if you have to buy another new game, and how long it's valid, etc.

The starter kit is $70, and in addition to the coupon, it comes with a headset, Bankshot Billiards Live Arcade game, and 200 MS points (which is not very much at all). If you bought the Premium 360 package, then the headset probably isn't very useful. Very few games allow you to have two players playing online with one Xbox, hence the need for two headsets. The only game I can think of that allows this is Halo 2.

A normal 12-month subscription to Xbox Live (without the starter kit) is $50. So, if you use the coupon from the starter kit, it's like you're getting the headset, the billiards game, and the 200 points for free. It would really only be a good deal if you don't have a headset. Otherwise, it's not that great.

If you want to hold off on Xbox Live, every now and then I see retailers like Best Buy offer a discount on the subscription when you buy a game at the same time. Like, I sometimes see, "Buy [X] game and a 12-month Xbox Live card and save $10" or something.

You really should get Xbox Live anyways. $50 a year works out to $4.17 a month, which is a really good deal for unlimited online gaming imo.

Yeah, I agree its a good deal--I just don't like paying retail! So I figured asking couldn't hurt.

Besides the headset and free game/coupon etc. Is there any reason to go out and actually purchase the gold package? Can't I just start XBox Live up right on my 360, and it will cost me $50, and be the exact same?

Just curious, again I don't know much about it. I only know that I want to play it!

Thanks everyone.

You can very often find discounted 12 month kits for around $30-$40, with headset and game. I was lucky enough to get 2 12 month kits for $12 each myself.

If you do get a cheap 12 month kit, remember to use a free 2 month card to start the account, then add the 12 months on afterwards, for a total of 14 months.

Yes you can subscribe from the the Dashboard itself using your credit card. I don't know if sales tax applies or not. So it might be a bit cheaper that way. I guess one advantage of buying in the store is that you might be able to use a coupon or something, and like I said, sometimes they can go on sale.

I should mention that I'm not sure if you can get an original Xbox Live subscription and use it directly with the 360. I'm pretty sure you'd have to activate it on a regular Xbox, and then convert it to a 360 Gold account afterwards. I'm not sure about that, but you should be careful if you attempt to save money by getting some discounted Xbox (original) Live kit at a store.

You can use any XBL card on the 360. It doesn't matter how old it is.
