Cheapest Computer Parts?

False Hope

CAGiversary!
'Kay. My mom's office was getting rid of some of their computers because they were being replaced by newer models. They were giving them out for free, so my mom signed up to get me one. As expected, more people signed up than there were computers, so they called around asking who had comps already. My mom was put on the list of "already owned" so I expected to get screwed out of the deal. Well, she comes home today and says she got one. I was expecting to get the whole thing, but the cheap bastards only gave me the CPU and NOTHING else! So what I need to know is Where can I get the cheapest parts for a comp? I mean mouse, monitor, keyboard, the wires for the back of the CPU, EVERYTHING. I even got boned out of a sound card, so I need one of those, too. At this point, quality is NOTHING. I need something that's cheap, and works before going crazy customizing. Any help is much appreciated.

I'm assuming that you got a tower, and not just the processor. THAT would have been exceedingly lame. It's also possible that it never had a soundcard because it was just an office computer. Check out NewEgg.com.

Well, yeah, that is kinda misleading. I do have the tower, though. Everything else is gone.

Thanks. Will do.

In terms of cables coming out of the back, you'll need, at minimum:

(cables attached to devices)
Mouse, keyboard, monitor

(separate cables)
power

You'll probably want some network cable or a phone cord, too, depending on how you want to connect to the Internet.

If I'm misunderstanding your "wires in the back" situation. Let me know.

As a general rule about cabling, check out Monoprice.com. I've wired a whole theater quite cheaply by buying from them.

Yeah, I was about to iterate you better know what socket your CPU is...

Check out forums.anandtech.com's Hot Deals forum. It's the CAG equivalent of comp parts.

mmm, i don't want to be mean, but you might want to get some help building this thing, cuz if you don't know what the wires on the back are, you might need a lil bit of assistance in building and possibly installation

Considering all he has to do is match color to color, I don't think it's a big deal. It's not like he has to place a heatsink.
