Cheapest System to Collect for / Most Expensive to Collect for

CAGiversary!
Was recently looking at videos on youtube about how collecting games was getting harder and harder what with prices on ebay and craigslist and the lot getting pretty nuts for some systems. Which got me thinking which system is the cheapest to collect for and which is the most expensive?

Other than really obscure systems, Id say SNES and Sega Saturn are my answers for most $$$. Both of those systems have games that can get really pricey. SNES I think due to the huge nostalgia factor, and Saturn because its still to this day IMO one of the most ignored systems (no games getting remade or relaunched etc), so now people want to see what theyve missed.

Cheapest for me HAS to be the original xbox. you can get almost any game for this system for a few bucks (outside of maybe 5 or so). Not really sure the reason for this but maybe its because people dont see Microsoft as a nostalgic video game company.

Im really happy I bought almost all Gamecube games when Gamestop clearanced them out as those are also starting to get pricey. I love collecting for the PSone the most as that was when I discovered RPGs and there are many to play on that system.

Thoughts?

I think it depends, but did notice games are going up. Would say GBA games or DS games.
The xbox is probably cheap because some games can play or the xbox 360 console vs ps1 can play on ps2/ps3 console, ps2 has a large collection and consider the longest/greatest during the time against xbox, gamecube. I think gamecube is better then ps2 because of the games are different and it had something amazing.... the Gameboy player. Gameboy on the go and can play on the TV. Would say SNES and Gameboy is consider the greatest consoles of all time.

I think DS games are cheap at the moment since everyone going for the 3ds. Anyway, anyone know if a DS cart is fake? Got a game cart with the label its dark and shiny. Its Teenage Zombies for the DS that was purchased at GS.

Basically if the cart doesn't feel smooth like a regular DS cart, then it's probably fake. The fake ones usually have that weird darker color plastic that are used for the carts, and you can feel the difference on the back of the cart.

Here are some other things to look out for,

I'd say Genesis for cheapest retro system to collect for. There doesn't seem to be nearly as many pricey games on it as the SNES and all the games I'd expect to be expensive (Phantasy Star IV, Shining Force II, etc.) aren't really expensive (at least compared to similar SNES games).

Genesis is pretty cheap, but sadly the prices seem to be going up now that people have figured out that the Genesis versions are just as good if not better than the SNES versions and they're usually cheaper. Even the stupid 32X that was basically worthless is now around $50. There was a time when you couldn't give the stupid thing away and you're not really missing anything. I can't really think of anything notable worth having for the 32X. Now the Sega CD is kinda pricey, but the only really noteworthy game on the Sega CD, Sonic CD, is now on Steam, PSN, Xbox and I think Wii U.

Most good games on NES are really cheap with some exceptions. Most of the expensive games on NES are terrible. The SNES does seem to be the hot system, so the games are kind of pricier than they really should be. The Atari 2600 has really bottomed out over the years. I can pickup most games for a little over a dollar now. The Atari Plug-in-play consoles don't help and the Atari Collection on Steam is probably going to kill whatever is left of that market. The Atari Jaguar is limited, but almost everything on the system is cheap. With the exception of the Jaguar CD which is expensive, but the games themselves are cheap. Also the hard to find Pro Controller is expensive, it's kind of useless since it only works on like 2-4 games.

I think the N64 has leveled off. I don't really see the prices changing all that much. I think the PSOne has started to get more reasonable as well as the Dreamcast.

The TurboGrapx 16 is expensive. The system will set you back by at least $100 and the games are not all that cheap. You're also stuck with coaxial unless you buy an add-on.  The CD Add-On is also kind of expensive. I'm not really sure if there are many games worth getting on it though.

Most everything good on the Saturn is expensive. They didn't sell many systems here and the good games are fairly limited. The fact that their cases are terrible doesn't help matters either. The system itself isn't that bad. You can easily pick one up for $50.

The most expensive system to collect for is the Neo Geo AES. The system is expensive, the games are expensive, the accessories are expensive, etc. The price of the damn thing has caused people to take perfectly functioning arcade boards and turn them into consoles so they can play the cheaper MVS games. I just hope to be able to get a Neo Geo MVS arcade while the prices are still not completely insane.
