Sheehan arrested during anti-war protest

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Cindy Sheehan, the California woman who has used her son's death in Iraq to spur the anti-war movement, was arrested Monday while protesting outside the White House.

Sheehan and several dozen other protesters sat down on the sidewalk after marching along the pedestrian walkway on Pennsylvania Avenue. Police warned them three times that they were breaking the law by failing to move along, then began making arrests.

Sheehan was the first taken into custody. She stood up and was led to a police vehicle while protesters chanted, "The whole world is watching."

I guess she should have followed Ghandi and Martin Luther King, Jr.'s example and have been in a "Free Speech Zone".

Reminder:

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE, AND TO PETITION THE GOVERNMENT FOR A REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES.

Yeah... I hate free speech zones... the whole concept is degrading.

However, loitering is loitering, and if you're excercising civil disobedience, expect to get arrested. King did, Ghandi did.

Second however, I'd have some sympathy if she wasn't such a pain in the ass.
The worst way to fight a protestor is to arrest them. She already gets attention, arresting her only benefits her cause.
Exactly. Ignoring someone like that hurts them much more.

I bet that the authorities said the same thing about King and Ghandi.

She should learn to keep her yap shut about anything other then the anti war stuff. Her comments on "occupied New Orleans" and the Israeli/Palestinian conflict were retarded, he needs better handlers. She's a one note instrument, and she should only be played that way.

Personally I can't get behind her, I'm not a "bring them home now!" liberal, I'm more the "well we're there now, leaving will just cause a worse situation." cutting and running now will cause more harm to the people and the region then we could imagine. For me winning the minds is more important then killing the bad guy. Winning the minds stops the bad guys wife and kids from turning on you when you kill their husband/father. Personally I think we should have gone in there with more. More troops, more police, more aid agencies, more evidence, more construction supplies, more infrastructure support, more of a clear vision of how to rebuild what we destroyed. But what's done is done and running isn't going to fix anything. I think the first thing we have to own up to is that there isn't one insurgency, there are several and a civil war already raging between them. You have your Islamic fueled dudes that bomb police stations and secular police that bomb the Mosques. And they both hate the US with little or no influence from outside agencies (Syria, AlQueda) they have enough reason on their own to bomb us.

Please, please, please don't begin equating her with King and Ghandi. You do those men a disservice when you lower their names.

While she has every right to be upset. She was NO MLK Jr. or Ghandi.

Blaming one person for son's choice =/= changing the mindset of the world.

Do I like Cindy Sheehan no, do I feel her pain for losing a son yes. The statement that she made "America is not worth dying for" was one I took offense to. If no one died for this great country we'd still be under British rule and not be exersing the great freedoms we are alowed today. It's just a slap in the face to every man and women who has ever served or is currently serving in our armed forces.

Like it's a slap in the face to be arrested for exercising the rights protected by the very same military? ;)

Of course a key point left out of E-Z-B's cut paste,
Sheehan was among several hundred demonstrators who marched around the White House on Monday and then stopped in front and began singing and chanting "Stop the war now!" Organizers had said some planned to be arrested.
Funny how when you knowingly break the law you tend to plan on getting arrested.

I think that lady is wasting her time, people was screaming no war, before the war, seems like nobody is listening. Pretty sure people was doing it before world war I or II, and again nobody is listening.

Its a shame that her son died, but gotta move on people. What she should be doing is praying and rejoicing about the resurrection that is suppose to take place in the near future.

Alright dude, dont do that again, i think you scared one of my cats.
Um, arrested for protesting without a permit, being verbally warned to disperse three times is not a protected right.
Then explain why they don't arrest the pro life protesters until they become dangerous? If scaring patients entering hospitals won't get you arrested, or even denounced by conservatives, how come it's acceptable to arrest sheehan in this case?

Its a shame that her son died, but gotta move on people. What she should be doing is praying and rejoicing about the resurrection that is suppose to take place in the near future.

I'm not even asking or expecting intelligent conversation from you anymore, but do you have to be the only person who refuses to discuss politics when discussing politics?

I still can't believe you need a permit to protest in this country. It seems to kinda destroy the whole point of it all.
