Circuit City 60gb ps3 w/ "free" wireless controller

Well they've been doing this deal for a while now. This isn't new. It's been posted before as well I'm sure. But either way, it'd take a lot more than a free controler and 5 Blu-Ray movies that I don't want, for me to get a PS3, even though I really want one. If I could pick the 5 movies, then I'd get one easy.

It's worth it for Virtua Fighter 5 and the soon to be online Tekken 5. If you're not into fighting games, hold out until the holidays.

My PS3 has already lasted longer than my 2 different 360s. Plus, Ratchet & Clank, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Folklore, and a new Wipeout HD are reasons enough - not to mention MGS4 and (hopefully) FFXIII in 2008.
Virtua Fighter 5 will be available on the 360 as well, with some minor improvements. Regardless of that fact 600 bucks for the ps3 is a *great* deal considering the amount of technology you are getting.
I have a feeling VF5 will be in delay hell until they figure out how to get it online. It was originally supposed to be out in August. Now, they're saying "Fall 2007". This could realistically release sometime next year. If you want to play the greatest fighting game of all time sometime this year, you'll need a PS3.

well you can choose movies out of certain selections...

"Greatest of all time"? ahahaha. That's why it's selling so well right?

You could go by sales but the American public loves buying Madden. Do you want to call Madden the greatest game of all time because of sales? I expected more from you. What's your favorite fighting game? Have you even played VF5 or are you just being a douchebag?
After my PS3 experience, it's not worth it.
Why is it not worth it? I am curious to hear your opinion.

I want to get a PS3 and want to know the reason behind your statement.
You could go by sales but the American public loves buying Madden. Do you want to call Madden the greatest game of all time because of sales? I expected more from you.
What exactly does Madden have to do with anything? Last time I checked, Madden wasn't a fighting game. At least counter with ANOTHER fighting game here.

Why are you calling VF5 the greatest fighting game of all time then? It's certainly not because of sales. Exactly what makes it so great? NOBODY is buying it. The game has already had one price drop (it's $39.99 new now). I would personally bet you money that if you polled 500 gamers and asked them what the best fighter of all time (so far) is, VF5 would NOT be anywhere near the top. I'm glad you enjoy it on your PS3, along with the other 2 decent games available, but that hardly makes it the "greatest of all time".

And for your edit. The Tekken series or Soul Calibur series has been my favorite since they have been out. And yes, I've spent some time with VF5. I don't care for the game (especially since I played the hell out of VF4).

I countered with Madden because it's a prime example that sales mean nothing. Virtua Fighter 4: Evo was considered the peak of fighting games but it was 5 bucks at Best Buy. People still didn't buy it because it was "too hard." Would you consider DOA 4 a better game because it sold better? Again, I expected more from you. You can poll all the CAGs you want, my opinion is that VF5 is the greatest fighting game of all time. Maybe it's because the PS3 doesn't have many games, but VF5 has more than justified my purchase of one.

Check your PM's

Since when have fighting games been known to fly off the shelves, especially on a system that's had dismal sales? (And you can't say Smash Bros. That's too easy.)

BTW, I think you're the only one laughing at your sig.

Ahh Rodimus, I'm glad depascals invite from the other thread has led you over here.

I'll mention a few fighting games for you that have been known to fly off shelves.

Tekken 5
Soul Calibur II
VF4
MvC2
Street Fighter II
Mortal Kombat

Should I continue on?

I've been a fighting game fan for years. One thing I noticed about Virtua Fighter is that it consistantly improves after every new version. Each time you get better graphics and 2 new characters. Virtua Fighter is a great game, it's highly techincal and once you get into it, the immersion potential is probably higher than any other fighting game, so on that regard.. I'd agree with you. But Virtua Fighter just doesn't appeal to as many people as Tekken does. The reasons are obvious too... Tekken characters have a lot more... well... character. They actually have endings. They seem more original than the VF guys, who are mostly just generic and stereotypical. I'm a fan of both franchises, but arguing over which is better is dumb. "Better" is vague and subjective. They have have strong and weak points.

Again, why do sales have any consideration in any conversation about the greatest?

Psychonauts and Beyond Good & Evil beg to differ.

EDIT -- I tried to move some of this fighting game conversation to PMs and to the fighting thread but mtxbass has persisted.

What? You are the one who told Rodimus to come in this thread, and you are the one who quoted my response AFTER I told you to check your PM's.

If anyone has persisted, it's you.

I don't undertand what you're arguing about? You just disagree with the statement: "VF5 is the Best Fighter Ever?"

EDIT - He didn't tell me to come here, I came to investigate on my own. I'm not sure why you're so upset about that. I'm bored at work, I wanna do something.
I don't undertand what you're arguing about? You just disagree with the statement: "VF5 is the Best Fighter Ever?"
Finally, someone gets it. Yes. I disagree with depascals statement that VF5 is the "greatest of all time". I am sure I am not in a minority there. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out Rodimus.

You yourself said fighters don't fly off shelves, yet I named a list of fighters that have sold very well. What more is there to not understand about that?

Forget it....I'm done. If you want to drive around in circles, that's cool.
Forget it....I'm done. If you want to drive around in circles, that's cool.
I'm done as well.
I'll ask you again in this thread (just like in our PM exchange as well). What makes VF5 the greatest fighter of all time? You have dodged the question the three times I have asked you. What is it depascal? Why in your opinion is VF5 so great? If anyone is driving in circles it's you with your "but it's the greatest of all time" statement. Tell me why it's so great. Tell me what makes it so great. Tell me what sets it apart from any of the other fighters that have ever been produced, enough to make it the greatest of all time.
VF5 is the greatest because:

It doesn't have to resort to special effects for hard hitting moves like Tekken does. (stupid reason but it always bothered me about Tekken)

It isn't masher friendly like Soul Calibur is.

At this point, there isn't anything ridiculously broken about it like the majority of fighting games out there (especially MvC2)

There aren't 3 guys out of the roster that give you no chance to win just because they're in the god tier (Third Strike, Yun, Yang, Chun-Li)

The game is technical and makes you really think about spacing and strategy. I can beat a expert in Tekken or Soul Calibur and feel great about myself but when I do it in Virtua Fighter, I feel spent. Everything I've got is needed to to pull off a win because there just aren't that many cheap abusable tricks in VF5. It's all about the fighting.

Get over it. Who cares.

You yourself said fighters don't fly off shelves, yet I named a list of fighters that have sold very well. What more is there to not understand about that?

Maybe we have diffrent definitions of "flying off shelves." Yes Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter sold well like 15 years ago. As for the others in terms of fighters they sell great. Lets face it, fighting games aren't exactlly the "system selling genre."
Get over it. Who cares.

You cared enough to seek me out specifically in this thread after depascal told you to in the fighting thread.
Regardless of that fact 600 bucks for the ps3 is a *great* deal considering the amount of technology you are getting.
They just proved that 14% of console owners use it for movies. 14%!!! I am in the 86 percentile category. I use consoles for games, so obviously I disagree.
You cared enough to seek me out specifically in this thread after depascal told you to in the fighting thread.
Wow, you're really that pissed I hopped over here to see what was going down? I could careless about what games people think are "the greatest." But I got involved here cause you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to the game industry.
But I got involved here cause you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to the game industry.
 Ah Rodimus, you crack me up here. Sales drive the game industry. No one can dispute that. Not even you and your "hardcore" views can disagree with the fact that if a game doesn't sell, it won't be around in another iteration the next time.

I'm sorry, but do you work in the industry?
No, but I know enough about it to tell when someone is full of :whistle2:# ...... I really shouldn't finish that sentence, I'm Buddist.

Dude, you probably mop the floors at EA. What games have you in the credits?

That's right!!!! HARDCORE TO THE EXTREME CHANPIONSHIP EDITION + alpha with a razor blade and a Mountin Dew baby.

It's been fun, no hard feeling right? I feel very close to you right now. Will you accept my XBL Friend Request?

haha, sure. Whatever floats your boat man.

Again, I ask for your credits, mtxbass. Don't act like your some hot shit developer and then disappear. If you want to bring your credentials into a public forum, don't be surprised when someone actually asks for some proof. I don't think they give credits for the guy that sucks Tim Shafer off but I think that's where your name would be.

This is why you're a fucking moron. According to your logic, VF5 is not a superior game because it didn't sell enough. Because it didn't sell well enough, we might not see a VF6. That's cool. But what does this all have to with the current edition???? If you're going to make an argument, at least argue about the merits of the game and not of the charts or what you think the average joe thinks about the game.

Now I really want to know which company you develop for so I can avoid all their games like the plague.

Let's just let it go bro, so we can get back on topic. In which case I had no right to be in this thread the first place since I don't own a PS3

I'm done.....for real this time. No more out of me. Back on topic.

Once again, I didn't quote you, yet you feel the need to act like I was talking directly to you. VF5 is not superior in my opinion based on the reasons I gave you in our private message conversation. I told you that I thought the AI was weak unless cranked up to the max. You can't argue that. I also told you that VF5 lacked online play, which other fighters have (and some do quite well). Those reasons alone make it a less superior game in my opinion.

I dropped the VF5 discussion 7 posts ago. You are the one who keeps bringing it up here.

Does it matter at this point? You've already proven yourself to be an ignant ninja at this point. All I want at this point is a link to your name in the credits for a game that has seen a major release. And I'm not talking about the little flash games that've never seen store shelves.

I said I was done but fuck it. You want to keep coming back with more bullshit about how you're in the industry but you have nothing to back it up. You're softer than a fuckin marshmellow and we all know it now.

Yet you are the one who keeps coming back with childish remarks. "ignant ninja"? What exactly is that? "money shots"? "moping up at EA"? Are you 12?

Like I said before. If you want my credentials, you can PM me, but I'm not going to bring that information into a public forum.

That makes no sense. If you're in the credits for a game, it is public information. It scrolls through and your name is right there. Why not just give the public what's already out there?.
