Circuit City: too late to preorder Gears of War/faceplate?? & other related questions

okay, the title's kind of vague, so lemme lay out the deets for you folks, and you tell me what you think:

up until very recently, i was only mildly interested in Gears of War. that has since changed, and i now expect to pick it up Day One (or Day Negative Three, according to Emergence Whatever). very last minute, i know. now that i'm rarin' to get it, i also want to get my dirty mitts on a freebie, presumably a faceplate, and presumably at Circuit City (as i have a $10 off $50 coupon).

on to the questions:

now, to my knowledge, the faceplates will be given out along with the game upon release, right? will they be first-come, first served, ie: even if i'm one of the last to preorder, can i still get one if i'm one of the first to pick it up? is it too late to preorder? as in, do they stop taking preorders "x amount of" days in advance? is there a better preorder bonus elsewhere that i can still take advantage of?

If you want the preorder bonus from CC get there ASAP! Almost every time they have given something free they always have fewer freebies then actual sale items. One time I had to get GuilewasSNK a game at CC and it was supposed to come with the Prima guide for free and they ran out of it within the hour. When I picked up Marvel Alliance I got the only free copy of the Xmen the movie game they had.

so it's true? i can preorder tomorrow and then just try to be one of the first people to pick it up on the 9th?

Yea just grab one of the reserve slips in the video game area and put the $5 down.
 
In this weeks afd its a free with offer with the purchase of it so you don't need to preorder it at all. As far as preordering I was told at my store that we weren't supposed to take preorders anymore so it may be YMMV on preordering. But if you live in the columbus ohio area or anyone for that matter PM me and I'll try to hold one for you on launch day as we only got like 10 plus one for me : - ). This is the polaris CC by the way.

You can go to the website and purchase just the faceplate for $9.99 and choose in-store pickup, then when you go to pick it up return it and buy it back with the game.

Yes we (technically) stop taking preorders so many days in advance (GoW was taken down on the 31st IIRC).Just go early to buy the game if you can and you'll probably get a faceplate anyways.

yeah, that looks like my best bet. i'm considering either buying the FP upfront and then return/rebuy it, but i think the easiest solution is to send my wife in on the 9th to pick it up. thanks, gang!

My store got in 13 face plates, and we only had 4 or 5 preorders. Obviously it's all YMMV, but that may give you an estimation of what other stores have.
 
Yeah, but are they holding them for the pre-orders?

I'm pretty sure I have to go to customer service to pick it up, therefore they would have it separated from lowly customers, but I'm paranoid.
 
I remember for saints row, had a stand that had about 40 faceplates on it.

I went in today at like 6, and they still didnt get the game in. I dont think ill need to preorder to get a CE with a faceplate, and w/ the 15% coupon, 59.50. Good deal IMO.

yeah, according to the 3 nearest CCs, they haven't received them at 5pm like they thought they would. all 3 told me "maybe tomorrow" and none knew at what time. i would've bought it from GS and just said "screw it", but my wife had my GS-credit in her purse. d'oh. so, i guess i'll wait til' tomorrow, and keep calling throughout the day.

I saw the game on x-play and it looks awsome, but ive got one problem my 360 is broken but i want the faceplate. So i have to decide if i should go buy the game even though i wont be able to play.

Was anybody able to combine the free faceplate deal with the 15% off coupon from the PSM/OXM magazines? My CC wouldn't wouldn't let me "double dip" two offers.

I did no problem .

I pre-ordered with the coupon & got a faceplate when I picked it up .
 
I bought the CE from the website the day it was released and it came with the faceplate for free. That strange thing is the game is being shipped but I had to go with store pick-up for the faceplate.
