circular, octagonal***, and square restrictor plates for Sanwa JLF

My first question is: for the Octagonal restrictor plate/gate...is it set up so that there is a notch for up, down, forward, back, and the diagonals? basically an octagon standing up on one of its corners....(like the big picture)

Or, is it like the smaller picture where the octagon is standing up on one of its sides...

I hope it's like the big picture, where there are definite notches for each direction.

Secondly, which plate do you prefer FOR STREET FIGHTER? apparently all the japanese arcade cabinets have square restrictor plates... so it must be good enough for some people. But what I want is the EASIEST for the non-extreme-hardcore player to pull of shoryukens, red fireballs, etc etc most consistently. :) thanks!

Does anyone know where to buy a Sanwa octagonal plate? The links on one of the Hori stick mods are both dead, and I can't seem to find a place selling them!
 
also, i have the square restrictor....and having trouble consistently doing dragon punches... Forward, Down, Downforward.... keep doing hadukens.. most of the time.... do you think an octagon or Circular restrictor plate may help me?
 
Square is the STANDARD for Japanese style arcade sticks.

I really think its funny that a lot of people scream octagonal (or 8 way LOLOL) are the way to go, when I know 9 times out of 10 they've never played on something like that.

Just my observation.

It's hip to be square.
 
I enjoyed the following moment:

I was like "who the fuck uses a circular gate?," and then I was conveniently able to check exactly who the fuck does in the poll.
 
The arcade I used to frequent years and years ago had MvC2 setup with Perfect360s. I used to play on that circular gate because that's all we had. I got used to it. I still haven't entirely gotten used to square gates, but I'm getting there.
 
I have both and I prefer the octagonal for SF4 because thats how it is in the arcade. typically american-style arcade boxes have circular or octagonal plates, but in Asia they ALL use squares.

The square one takes some getting used to for fireball characters and its possible to do very well with it, but i personally prefer the 8 way. Its personal preference really.
 
I prefer octagonal just because I like the feel. However, I rarely play fighting games and when I do it's certainly not seriously so my opinion should be considered accordingly.
 
ok, so i got used to the square....then put in an octagon.

for hadukens it helped just a little bit, but it REALLY hurt my low blocks.... you have to find the corner pretty much for it to register. In a square it's obviously very easy to find the corners.

I took it out and switched back to square :)
 
Ive gotten used to square after waiting for my parts to come in from Japan, but i put the Octo in my HRAP3 but leaving my TE Square so i have an option. I find the square works pretty good for me but i suck with players like chun-li and zangief .
 
just stuck to square since its default.. and like $10 for a piece of octagon shaped plastic doesnt seem worth it...

but thats just me :)

i considered oct gate though, but since i never tried square i gave it a chance and think its perfectly fine.
