[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Anyone interested in trading for my Mario RPG code for Wii-U I got a few months back on CN?

Got it thinking I'd use it when I eventually get a Wii-U but now think that's a lot farther off than I originally thought.

Would like to get a code for a 3DS game in return.

That's one you need to run through the vWii, right?

I'm nowhere near my Wii U, but I might be interested if I don't already own it.

Damn...I think you're right about that. Now that I look at the email with the code it says Wii VC. When I used my CN points on it it said Wii/Wii-U

I forgot that you need to boot in Wii mode for certain things...can't understand why Nintendo would do that.

Anywho, if you don't already own it send me a PM. Maybe we can work something out.

All the complaining about going with digital rewards over physical ones and not enough bitching about the fact that they jacked up the prices 25-33%.

Lol yes, that has been done already too. A lot of them are the same games for 50-100 points more than what they used to be.

In order to have different games from before they would have to actually release more games on the Wii u virtual console and we all know that will happen in about 3-4 years.

All the complaining about going with digital rewards over physical ones and not enough bitching about the fact that they jacked up the prices 25-33%.
1) Nintendo has been inflating the prices of things for AT LEAST a year now. This started with items like the Pikmin 3 tote bag for 400 coins, even though the Mushroom tote bag had the same dimensions and only cost 250 coins.

2) People suspected Club Nintendo might go digital 2 - 3 weeks ago with the all digital elite rewards and today felt like further confirmation that Nintendo is going to either go completely digital or have an even stronger focus going forward. So naturally it makes sense people would be complaining about current issues besides things we've come to accept and really lets face it, coins are worth less now than they were a year + ago.

3) Even though I know this point will result in less potential likes and maybe some drama, but I quite honestly couldn't care less about Nintendo asking for like 50 more coins on digital games. In fact, I would be completely okay with paying more for games if we got better and higher quality games. Mind you, this statement DOES NOT mean I am asking for Super Smash Bros. U on release, but the infinitely more reasonable Earthbound for 250 coins (what $10 games seem to go for) or say Shovel Knight / Pokemon Rumble U for 330~ coins.

4) Going off my previous point, I am willing to bet all my Square-Enix reward vouchers (ARV: $0.0001) that most people would gladly spend even as high as 2,000* coins on something like a specially designed and limited time Amiibo than 10 digital games.

* I only went that high for sake of argument. It would ideally be lower, since there are very few people out there that can swing that type of coin.

1) it's completely different for the physical rewards - they sell out fast, they can charge more in a final run; supply/demand deal. Raising the prices on previous digital offerings creates inflation, which is your point in 2)
3) I'd predict Shovel Knight would be 600 points, Earthbound 400

I suppose about a year and a half. I checked during the crossover to the new year and none of my coins were expiring, so I just kept them in the account hoping for something like the Luigi statue to come back in to the physical rewards.

I wouldn't go off the number expiring, since I believe it updates once you crossover into a new literal year (so 1/1/15 not 7/1/14). I noticed this last year when it said I had 0 and then something like 150 were expiring. This was later confirmed when I looked into what coins I had expiring this year (double checked just now) and it says zero, even though that is literally impossible given I had 150 coins expiring last year and have had platinum status since 2011, so this year I should have at least 600 coins expiring.
CN does some funny things. One time I got a Nintendo Land post play survey though I never played it. Took it anyway. Classic.

BTW, could you punch in CN codes for games you already registered (two Mario Kart 7 codes)?

A reminder (since many of you who should know better seem to have forgot), this thread is not for any eShop or Club Nintendo code trading or sales talk.

Take the eShop trading here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/332626-nintendo-wiiwii-u3ds-eshop-code-trading-thread/

And the Club Nintendo code trading here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/177121-club-nintendo-registration-code-tradingselling/

I'm clearing out all the sale/trade talk but deleting posts is super slow on the new CAG so bear with me ;).

Now my offer will be deleted?!? :(

Anyway, I'm tempted to pickup Mario golf, but it looks like its more of an rpg than a simple sports game. Am I right?

You really just keep leveling up your character and thats really it. He has a farther drive and you choose what you upgrade.

To say that its an rpg is exaggerating to me, at least.

I couldn't beat the last level lol.

So I haven't been keeping up with the thread.  Is nintendo repeating the offerings in a pattern.  I'm trying to hold out for majora's mask if it's ever offered but puzzle league is tempting.  I loved tetris attack on the snes.

Unless you consider disappointment a pattern, no. Just about every game releases fairly randomly, though ever now and then Nintendo chooses to sync offers with upcoming releases, like I think Yoshi broke the NES pattern because Yoshi's Island was releasing that month. In this case I would say we might see it reappear next month, but thats pure speculation and I wouldn't count on it.

Club Nintendo will help you outfit Ganondorf with free DLC

Here’s a nice offer involving a (usually) not-so-nice guy: if you buy Hyrule Warriors for Wii Uand register the game with Club Nintendo between 9/26/14 and 10/23/14, you can receive a free download code for the Demon King Costume Set DLC: two costumes for Ganondorf that you can use in-game.

Ganondorf is one of the many playable characters in Hyrule Warriors that come from classic games in The Legend of Zelda™ series. The two downloadable costumes are inspired by his appearances in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Keep an eye on club.nintendo.com in the weeks ahead for more details about the offer.

You must be a Club Nintendo member to participate, and the offer is available only in the US and Canada.

I have to say that these costumes look great.

I think this confirms though that Nintendo will mainly be focusing on digital only rewards for CN though...

The best part of that announcement is that North America might finally get a CN item that Japan and Europe don't get !!! :D/
Lol, yeah I will take their preorder bonus/collectors editions over our skins (which is probably be easily obtainable for them hah). NoA has yet to announce any collectors edition while Japan got an awesome package and EU has at least gotten the scarf replica. They did announce more skins for different retailers...which will probably be like 3-4 different version and different stores, yay!

So I have use my points towards STAR FOX 64... will it work on a Wii U console, or does it appear in Wii Mode app, requiring you to use a classic controller.

If I do purchase, and its not compatible to all the Wii U function yet, will I be able to purchase as a Wii U upgrade once Nintendo ports it over digitally?

It works only in the wii emulator mode currently. You'll need a classic controller to play. Once it is ready for Wii U, you have the option to upgrade it for $1.50 or something like that.

it won't work on the Wii u directly it has to be all done through the Wii mode app and will require the classic controller.

My thoughts on the Ganondorf DLC:

First and foremost, I am happy Nintendo is finally back to awarding early buyers with something cool. I don't know about anyone else, but I often found their other buy early for free swag promotions to suck. Like who wants to buy Super Luigi U digitally just for a chance at a small LE 1,000 Luigi pin? Sure the Kirby cards were cool, but that was an item I rather see them sell than give away. With this being said, I got to say I don't understand why Nintendo choose Ganondorf for the promotion.

In either case, I really have mixed feelings about this. Since I am already platinum (more or less), I can't say two costumes for a character I won't use is enough motivation to redeem my codes, though I still feel bad at missing free content. On the other hand, I didn't plan on picking up Zelda Musou on launch anyway, so this probably wouldn't have worked in my favor regardless. Regardless, hopefully Nintendo keeps doing this going forward.

@ Moopher

This type of thing is why I told you that you should hold off redeeming points.

So...should I buy Super Smash Bros. or Hyrule Warriors first? Decisions, decisions.

Smash is almost certain to be of higher quality and least likely to drop in price of the two.

Hyrule warriors will probably be on sale this BF.

Quick questions. I don't have a wii u. If I redeem for earthbound, how long do I have to actually use the code they send me?

I bought a used wii, so I don't have any nintendo accounts other than club nintendo. Is there a bonus or referral that I could do for someone?

I believe CN codes (both bought and awarded prizes) are valid for an indefinite amount of time and should be fine for a year +. Worse case you call and explain, then in 2 - 4 months you might get assistance. :3

Not that I know of.

After you get the code for Earthbound you should be fine.

I have to say that these costumes look great.
They do and it's a nice perk (sucks that all the other costumes are divided up for pre-order stuff) but it would have been really neat if they had taken the OoT and remade it in high poly. Give us a little glimpse of what a modern OoT would have looked like and not stuck out like a sore thumb.

Can someone quote where the game values were listed in this thread. Someone had it broken down by $$.

Are any of the platinum games exclusive or can they all be purchased in nintendo's online store?

I'm not the biggest fan of the "Warriors" games, since I find them quite repetitive, but I am definitely getting this one; I'm just a sucker for Zelda. I almost got One Piece: Pirate Warriors, but the whole "download only" made me change my mind.

As for Club Nintendo, I think the writing is on the wall; it is definitely moving towards digital only rewards.

Problem with the warriors games is that they do a GOTY/complete edition. With all the DLC packs for Hyrule Warriors, I'm going to wait, even though I actually want it.

I know this game is being developed by a 3rd party, but has Nintendo ever published a GOTY/complete edition?

I don't think Hyrule Warriors (HW) will have a GotY edition because that's not the formula for the Warriors series.  They usually release an Extreme Legends edition and then an Empires edition.  I highly doubt this will happen with HW since this is a special case scenario.

nintendo doesnt believe in free games tied to a games with gold/ps+ service so good luck with them giving us that lol. nintendo needs to have a pa4 and a xbox one in their offices so they can look at how they do online. nintendo is waaaaay behind on it sadly.

Don't think they ever did and I doubt they will anytime soon.

I'm surprised they don't seem to be working on that business model yet. Although it's no surprise since I think even the CEO said something about porting their old games to iOS or Android (or lack thereof).
