Comic Bags, Boards, and Boxes

Scriber

CAGiversary!
I've been buying up big collections of comics and they usually come bagged and boarded, but I've received a few that aren't and was hoping for some good quality bags and boards. I just need around 100-150 and good boxes that can hold 300-450 ,long or short doesn't matter too much. I would like a good deal or just a good site to buy them from. My "local" comic shop is about 40 minutes away and I hardly ever go there because of the distance.
Also I know i've seen someone ask about a good method or storage system to show off your comics , and was wondering if anyone has some cool ways to show off the front covers or just a few to have on my wall or shelf.

~Appreciate all and any help , thanks in advance.

Its where I buy all my stuff from. I have the comic book houses, with short boxes.

As far as displaying them. Most people don't display them on walls, or out in the open light will fade the comic. However BCW has binders that can hold comics. But IMO go with the comic book houses. You can add a short box to them for $2.25. I also get my bag, and boards from them as well. Go with the cheapest stuff they have. I've never noticed much of a difference in their different quality levels. .

I used to buy a local store but BCW has better prices usually.

I also recommend not showing off your comics. I have all of mine in boxes too (though most of the ones I've had as a kid are unbagged, I bag/board the newer stuff I've been buying).

Ahh I see so displaying is just a bad idea. I guess i'll just keep them stored away then. Thanks for all the help really appreciate it.

Damn, this thread has reminded me that I got about 1000+ comics that are just sitting in my closet in cardboard boxes (not comic boxes). Almost all are in bags, but very few of them have boards. I stopped collecting comics about 7 years or so ago, so some of them have been there for awhile.

I tried once to clean up my collection, but I get easily distracted and 4-5 hours later I was doing more reading than organizing. I'm sure that if I attempted this again it would be similar. Guess I'll have to get a couple friends over to help.

One question I do have is: What kind of adhesive do you guys use to keep your bags closed? I have heard that certain tapes can eventually damage the comics, or does it not really matter? Right now, most of mine do not have any tape.

Perhaps some of the older cheaper tapes contain chemicals that could potentially damage comics, but since the tape pieces are attached to the bags themselves, this isn't really a problem.

I simply use quality Scotch tape from 3M. The standard stuff.

Also, if you don't want to waste a lot of money on supplies and can get them for free, use computer paper boxes for the comics. They fit pretty much perfect on their side and will hold a good 200 or so comics in each computer paper box.

I don't tape mine shut. I just fold over the bag lip, and leave it like that. I mainly do that because with any tape on the flap. I always seem to catch the front cover on the comic on there.

Man, that's happened to me so many times but it was with crappy comics and I learned from those mistakes.

I've done it with good comics. The worst for catching the front of the comic is the self sealing bags, With the long strip of adhesive across the flap.

I had some self sealing bags... but they had the adhesive on the back side so the flap didn't hurt the comic when you took it out.

I wish I had more of those, I they were great.
