Okay, I just bought a nice HDTV from Costco, bought a AV Selector from joytech and a Dvd recorder.

I have my dvd player connected to my AV Selector using component cables and connected my selector connected to the tv, using component cables as well.

I played the movie "Dog Day Afternoon" and get no sound.

My Question is,

am i supposed to be getting sound through component cables? and if not how do i get sound?

I get sound using regular AV connectors (red, yellow, white). but ONLY Video with the component Connectors

Component has 3 hookups (red, green, blue) that are purely for video, for audio you'll need either an optical cable or an audio RCA cable (the red and white hookups). I'm assuming that neither are on the same cord as those three component wires?

Ah yeah, forgot that one in my audio list...
you have to use separate audio cables ,Component cables are only for video. WELCOME TO THE HDTV OWNERS CLUB!! :::confetti thrown:::
wait til he finds out that his new hd dvd/blue ray player WON'T SUPPORT component because of the stupid copy protection...shhh don't say that I said that.

you must be over 30...i have this theory that once you get older than 30 you begin to lose all understanding of technology. i'm saddened that i only have 5 years and 2 weeks left of knowing how to hook up a dvd player or videogame console...i feel your pain.

if possible you should go with an optical audio output.
