So has it been confirmed that the component cable that we have been using on the Gamecube will be usable on the Wii? Or do I have to buy a new cable?

There are conflicting reports, so unless NOA officially announces something or (even better) we see the cables coming with the system it's up in the air.

That said, it seems that it would be the same connection (the multi-out composite/component/s-video connector according to the official site). So the GameCube cables will probably work. I mean, it's the same connection they've used since the N64.

They've actually used that same connection since the SNES.

The GC did have the different out for the component cable though, so it is a bit concerning that their is only one a/v out this time, as that would suggest a new type of cable (was hoping to use my GC S-video cable).

Looking at the back of my cube the port on the Wii definitely isn't the same port they used for SNES, N64, and GameCube. It resembles the Digital A/V out on the cube, but sine the Digital on the GameCube didn't support Audio (which makes me wonder why it says "Digital A/V Port" above it when it was only video...) so no GameCube cables will be compatible, whether you're using the component, composite, or s-video.
