Conflicted with two HD TVs (LCD vs Plasma)

If 80 percent is going to be for gaming, I'd suggest LCD, but I wouldn't go with either T.V. you suggested.

This one is cheaper than the Sammy plasma you listed, it's bigger, and I highly doubt you would be disappointed: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN52B...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1265499422&sr=8-2

I really wouldn't try to force a T.V. decision in one day, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Try looking at some of Samsungs other LCD models and compare features.

FYI, I have the LN52A650

I'm with lolwut, I got the LN52A550 a few years back and I couldn't be happier. There is no lag whatsoever for gaming which was a huuuuge plus for me. If you're shopping at Bestbuy you can take your ps3/360 in and hook it up to different tvs to see how the look/feel. Also the shipping service from amazon was great, they brought the tv in, set it up, hooked everything up and let me try it out a bit to check for dead pixels and whatever before they left. But like lolwut said, don't force a decision, it's a lot of money to spend and you want to make sure you're happy with what you get. I suggest spending a little time at avsforum to read some opinions.

rock on, thanks for the tips. this came from a sudden offer from a visiting aunt who can't make my wedding in may and she wanted to get her wedding present over with before she leaves tomorrow. while it was hard to outwardly ask how much she was willing to spend, the missus and I thought it would be polite to cap it at $1000 after sales tax. so we picked up the 47" Philips. It'll go in the bedroom because we already have a 63-inch plasma in the living room.
