In this thread, we will talk about conspiracies.

To start things off, I will present you with the most outrageous I've ever heard of, Denver International Airport:
There are several conspiracy theories relating to the airport's design and construction.
Murals painted in the baggage claim area have been claimed to contain themes referring to future military oppression and a one-world government. However, the artist, Leo Tanguma, said the murals, entitled "In Peace and Harmony With Nature" and "The Children of the World Dream of Peace," depict man-made environmental destruction and genocide along with humanity coming together to heal nature and live in peace.[48]
In the mid-1990s, Philip Schneider gave lectures about highly secretive government information concerning "deep underground military bases" that were constructed by the United States government, and said that one of these bases exists underneath the Denver International Airport. Author Alex Christopher claimed to have worked in the tunnels under the airport, and described what appeared to be vast holding areas for prisoners, strange nausea-inducing electromagnetic forces, and caverns big enough to drive trucks through, presumably to be filled with helpless political prisoners. This theory has been challenged, since photos have revealed that these tunnels are used for transportation of baggage by way of conveyor belts. [49]
Conspiracists have pointed to unusual words cut into the floor as being Satanic, Masonic, or just some impenetrable secret code of the New World Order: Cochetopa, Sisnaajini, and the baffling Dzit Dit Gaii.[50] These words are actually Navajo terms for geographical sites in Colorado. "Braaksma" and "Villarreal" are actually the names of Carolyn Braaksma and Mark Villarreal, artists who worked on the airport’s sculptures and paintings.[51]
There is a dedication marker in the airport inscribed with the square and compasses of the Freemasons, along with listing the involvement of the two Grand Lodges of Freemasonry in Colorado, and mounted over a time capsule sealed during the dedication of the airport. The Freemasons participated in laying the “capstone” (the last, finishing stone) of the airport project. Conspiracists claim that this is a futuristic “keypad” with some unknown purpose. Scarier to them is the notation of an organization called the 'New World Airport Commission,' which sounds similar to New World Order. The blog, DIA Conspiracy Files [52], follows the various theories surrounding the airport. Some also claim there is a city under the airport to protect the rich and government officials from the possible events of 2012. This theory was featured on a Conspiracy Theory show with former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura on TruTV.
Speaking of Jesse Ventura, has anybody seen his show? I watched when it was first on, but didn't find it as interesting as I thought it would be.

The only conspiracy at DIA is how god-awfully hideous the place is, oh yeah, burial mounds too...

Everytime I go there, that damn subway scares the shit outta me with those pickaxes on the walls. It's like being in that Bloody Valentine horror movie that took place in the mines.

For conspiracies Watergate would be my pick.

I find the Assange accusations interseting (and suspect).

The other thing I'd say is that out of all the alleged conspiracies you've heard of, it's likely that at least one of them really happened.

I used to love conspiracies but then I realized this world isn't interesting enough to have the grand conspiracies people envision. 9/11, Kennedy, Moon landing, etc. these are all just people's attempts to make real life like the movies.

This is one of the reasons Burn After Reading is so goddamn genius.

My grandmother is the wisest, no bullshittin-ist person I've ever met. She's sworn a hundred times that something happened at Roswell and we're being lied to.

But you gotta admit that the US Govt murdered Marilyn Monroe so she wouldn't go public about the small penis size of every Kennedy...

Oh yeah, that one's definitely true.

Whhhaaa, I love DIA, one of the nicer airports I've been in.
Iraq, Iran-Contra, Afghanistan, Iran in 1953, Vietnam... hell, lots of them are real.
But are those really conspiracies?

Conspiracy in this sense occurs when people conspire to to do something unlawful. So at the very least, I'd say Iran-Contra was.
Conspiracies theories are always wrong. And they're always stupid.
Noun

conspiracy theory (plural conspiracy theories)

 1. A hypothesis alleging that the members of a coordinated group are, and/or were, secretly working together to commit illegal or wrongful actions including attempting to hide the existence of the group and its activities. In notable cases the hypothesis contradicts the mainstream explanation for historical or current events.

9/11 was a conspiracy.

A group of Al Quaeda operatives (the members of the coordinated group working together) planned and carried out multiple attacks on US soil (the illegal/wrongful action) in secrecy (attempting to hide the existence of their activities).

And yeah, Iran-Contra, Watergate, etc.

Max, Isabelle and Michael?

Damn you Netflix!!!

I love conspiracy theories - especially the junk that you find in a Dan Brown novel with secret societies and hidden passageways and clues in plain sight. Fun stuff!
But are those really conspiracies?
Considering we were lied into/about all of those, I'd say yes. There's more, too, but really, who wants to type out all the crap we've supported over the decades. It's depressing.

Have any conspiracies been found out to be true throughout history?

If conspiracies don't exist, why do we have a word for it?

I think most conspiracies and the nuts that believe in them are hilarious.

Edit: I see one of the mods hates me.

I never took history in college, and only had a history class in 11th grade.

All that watching of History channel doesn't count.

Fair enough.

It's a shame what happened to history channel, like most cable stations it's become 90% crap.

I agree. In the early 2000s/later 90s, those channels were decent. Today, it's turning into idiocracy.

It's true - I can't believe how many channels now show fake wrestling. In an ideal world that junk would be relegated to the armpit of cable tv.

NatGeo isn't bad, but even they have that Alaskan troopers show or whatever the hell it's called. These channels have basically lowered themselves to worrying about ratings over the quality of programming.
