Controller options for the Wii

I received a Wii for Xmas but never owned the Game Cube, and was considering purchasing a couple of Game Cube titles (ex. Mario Kart Double Dash - I was a huge fan of Mario Kart on both the N64 and the Super Nintendo).

For controllers I definitely want to go wireless and was trying to decide between the Wavebird ($34.99) and the Game Cube MicroCON wireless controller by MadCatz ($19.99). Is the Wavebird worth the extra $15?

Do I have to purchase GC memory card if I want to save GC games?

I also saw a recent post that MK64 would be available as a virtual console title in the future. Are you able to use a Game Cube controller to play or do you also have to purchase the Wii classic controller to play virtual console games?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

In my opinion, the wavebird is definitely worth it. It ranks up there as one of the best first party controllers ever produced if you ask me. Plus i can tell you for sure the dongle part will definitely fit on top of a wii, which (while it probably IS the case for the madcatz controller) I couldn't say for sure. If you're like me, it's first party or bust. A bevy of wavebirds (a veritable waveflock if you will) is an incredible sight to behold.

I believe a gamecube memory card IS necessary to save gamecube games, yes.

Gamecube controllers function fine with virtual console games... so the classic controller is optional. Maybe opt against them in favor of the slightly more expensive wavebirds!

Welcome to the (mario) party!

The Wavebird is definitely worth the extra money. An excellent wireless controller. Anything third party should be kicked off your list.

You will need a GameCube memory card to save GameCube games.

Nintendo 64 games can be played with the Classic Controller, and also with the GameCube controller. Although controller compatibility is completely up to the developer/publisher. So that may change or vary depending on the game. We won't really know until the game actually comes out.

Anyone know where you can find the original gray wavebirds rather than the platinum colored ones? I already had a gray one and would like to get another to match. I suppose ebay is my only option.

If you can find those clearance Mario Party 4/Wavebird combos at K-Mart, it comes with an original gray one. And its a steal for only 8 bucks.
