Could Goldeneye 007 dreams on the Virtual Console be dead?

I don't see how updated graphics could be a bad thing. By today's standards; Goldeneye looks awful. I don't think I would give it one bit of attention without updated graphics. Anyway; I look forward to more news about it.

Yeah, giving it the HD treatment would be great, but only if they don't clutter it up with a bunch of unnecessary detail.

If everything is just sharper looking, then I'll have no problems. If they actually CHANGE something..then that's where the problem is :(

It's still just a rumor for XBL. I don't get why everyone is acting like it is confirmed because some shady website says so.

However, it makes more sense on XBL than the VC, since the VC iteration would just be a straight port with no real updates (such as online multiplayer).

Meh. I might enjoy the single player but multiplayer is probably a pass for me. The Halo 3 Goldeneye maps I dl'd are working just fine.

With Microsoft Owning Rare it will never come out on the VC unless there is a MAJOR change in either 1. Ownership of Rare or 2. Microsoft competing with Nintendo for business rather than cooperation with Nintendo.

This is a good sign though, I'm glad to see this game coming out again!

Yep, definitely much better on the XBLA since they have online play while Nintendo keeps saying no to online play for VC games.

Updated graphics is a good thing as well, it just looks too crappy to stand playing it today for me.

Would be great if they added some new multiplayer maps and weapons as well. Leave the single player alone, but improve the multiplayer.

I remember there was a group working on a Goldeneye: Source awhile back. I know they put out a Beta of it a year or so ago. If they ever put out a final version and MS could get it on XBL that would be great.

I'm not fluent with how the rights control this, but the game was published by Nintendo originally. I know that for sure. Rare developed the game and Activision owns the rights to games for the franchise. But if Nintendo was the original publisher, do they retain any kind of say specific to this game? Other Bond games were multi-platform, but they weren't published by the big N.

On the flip side, I'd L-O-V-E to see this on XBLA. I used to be the king of drunken Goldeneye back in the college days. We'd get wasted and play Man with the Golden Gun for hours. If this is true I want to start a CAG Goldeneye group now.

No, Nintendo has no rights to the game.

Rare has the rights to the game, Activision has the rights to the Bond license.

The rumors say that MS, Rare and Activision reached an agreement to get Goldeneye on XBLA before the launch of Activision's next Bond game.

XBLA please.

The fun of this game was the multiplayer.

VC would just ruin that by having a direct port with local multi. Having to buy four classic controllers for the N64 Wii on top of the regular Wiimote is garbage.

My sophomore roommate was a total fiend for that. He'd stay sober and he had memorized the spawn locations based on where you died. On the smaller maps he could zip around the level and kill you before you could even move or fire a shot...like 5 times in a row before he'd make a mistake. Not cool doing that when your friends are all trashed. We got very pissed at him and threw him in the pool fully dressed a couple times.

Hah, yeah he had that coming. No, I wouldn't be sober though. I'd get thrashed and loved to use Boris. You'd have this room of camouflaged troops waiting to kill me and see a flash of orange strafing the room, running in very sporadic paths. Good times good times.

Same. They'd better keep the same music too.

I can still remember hitting the bike trails at night and coming home to play GoldenEye. First we'd stop by the pizza place where my friend worked to get free food and bike home (carrying pizza and pop) to the un-air-conditioned house where I rented a bedroom to play GoldenEye till after the pizza was cold and the sun came up.
