Couple of questions on Tversity...

hiccupleftovers

CAGiversary!
Yeah, so I've searched around a bit, but so far haven't really come up with a definitive answer to my question. I know there was this thread previously on CAG from way back when, http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128517 but didn't feel like bumping a 4 year old thread. Anyway, my question is to those who've set up this program and run some HD file, how does the HD file look when streamed? Is there a noticeable drop in quality at all? I'm mostly concerned with 720p files.

Why not just download it and try it yourself?

I've been using it for about a year, but I normally only stream tv shows/cams/dvd rips. The HD stuff (720p/1080p movies) I usually get are formatted more for playing on the PS3, one upload group even always posts a guide to downsampling the audio for play on the 360 with their torrents, so instead of bothering with that I just stream it to my PS3 media server instead.

Yeah, there's some programs for downstreaming and such HD stuff. You use PS3 media server as well? Downstreaming isn't that hard to do/not really a big deal. Xenonmkv is supposed to be a good program for that that a friend of mine just recommend to me recently (I guess I might've been doing it the hard way/through alternatives.)

Actually, I tested Tversity yesterday and was pretty happy with the results. About what I expected for a HD stream. Definitely saw the increase in quality over say a DVDRip through tversity/thumb drive.

Since you say you've used tversity before, I just have one other question for you, do you know how to set up subtitles with it?

Honestly I never use subtitles, but I googled it and it brought up the tversity forums, which apparently you'd need to re-encode the video file to have the subs hardcoded in. Seems tversity doesn't support subs, or it didn't when the posts asking about it were made.

I'm just lazy when it comes to the HD stuff that needs to be "fixed" to play on the 360. I usually either end up burning it to dvd anyway, or just streaming to the ps3 then deleting after watching.

The PS3 media server works pretty well, but you get hiccups sometimes with big files. I got a massive 1080p blu ray rip of the SW trilogy and it streamed it, looked terrific, but every so often the video would pause streaming for a second here and there. Plus it will stream some file formats that tversity won't read, so it's a good alternative in those cases.

HD shit looks HD.

I stream a lot of 1080p stuff, the only problem I've found with it has been that data transfer rates from my computer don't always match up with playback speeds on my PS3.
Other than that, it's been crystal clear smooth sailing.
