Cowboy Bebop Perfect Sessions..?

Okay, now I remember where I saw the real ones. Amazon.com Marketplace. Apparently the real version comes with some stuff aside from what's listed on the bootleg version, like the full soundtrack.

Anywhere I can find this cheaper than the $110 or so the cheapest price there is?
If I want to get the entire Cowboy Bebop series on DVD, what's the best way to go about doing it?
Either pick up the Remix discs as singles, or wait for the eventual box set release.

Yeah, that's what I was about to recommend too.

Yeah, the real deal has the same looking cover as that one, but it's fatter and has all of the real sessions inside of it along with one of the soundtracks. As in, all 6 discs in their original cases. I could be wrong about this. I just have the shitty bootleg. I WANT THE REAL DEAL DAMNIT.

There is a retail box set for the original cowboy bebop w/ 1 ost, but its extremely rare, goes for $150-300 on ebay.

Hopefully they'll put out a remix boxset, or thinpak soon.

It's much fatter. The one in the picture looks like it's 2 DVDs wide. The real one is 7 DVDs deep (the 6 originally released DVDs plus the 1 CD soundtrack). You're right about everything. The box it comes in has this flip top lid, it's kind of weird. I've never seen a DVD box case like it. It's surprisingly sturdy, though. Not cheap cardboard.

I have it and had no idea it was even valuable. I bought it at the same time I bought Neon Genesis Evangelion Perfect Collection which is pretty much worthless (however my nephew destroyed the box it came in so if anyone has one they don't need let me know).

I actually have the perfect sessions bootleg, as a friend of mine bought it for me for my birthday a few years back without knowing that it wasn't the "real deal." In fact, I didn't even know it was a bootleg until I stumbled upon it online a while back - the quality of the transfer and the physical discs themselves is fantastic.

Gah I can't believe you guys are commenting on how good the quality is on a bootleg or how you couldn't tell a 2-3 disc gate fold box wasn't a bootleg release.

Anyways the real one is indeed nice. It's like the escaflowne limited edition but much more glossy. Oddly enough it was the Japanese release of the soundtrack they released in the box.

Seriously, they never fail to disappoint.

DO NOT BUY BOOTLEGS.

Wait, so the actual flip top is rare now? I'm glad I picked it up so long ago then. It is kind of awkward, because the flip top is thicker than the rest of it ... the box is pretty huge, too. Enough to fit all 6 DVDs plus the CD in it. I bought it for a pretty hefty price a while back. I don't use the box, though ... I just have the individual DVDs on my shelf, the box is in my closet. Is it worth selling alone?

The box alone is worth a good amount but it would be harder to place it alone. People are lazy what can I say? The dvds and soundtrack can be purchased on their own and are the same editions you would find in the box. The soundtrack is one of the more annoying to find on its own due to its age and the high number of bootlegs.

One thing I have noticed about the box is that with its ultra glossy finish any damage done do it is easily noticed. If your box is free of the normal bottom shelf wear and other damage you have a good resale item. Any number under 1000 also seems to fetch a higher price.

That's odd, I mean the whole set was limited but I guess collectors want them as old as possible.
Oddly enough it was the Japanese release of the soundtrack they released in the box.
I thought that was odd, too. I never even opened the soundtrack, though.

The term bootleg in America tends to create the image of a guy sitting a movie theater with a camcorder or a guy at a concert with a hidden tape machine. The bootlegs we're talking about are more like unauthorized reproductions.

Most anime-related bootlegs (DVDs and audio CDs) are factory pressed using industrial equipment that is often used to produce legitimate merchandise. They also tend to pretty much copy the contents of the legitimate discs exactly and spend a little extra making the items look as good as possible so that they can

1. pass it off as legitimate to unaware consumers and thus charge more for it and

2. convince people who don't want to spend quite as much on legitimate releases to buy their set.

This is the genuine R1 Cowboy Bebop Perfect Sessions box set.

cowboy-bebop_box-set.jpg

It has a flip top sturdy box, with all 6 volumes of the original DVD release, and OST 1 CD import.

The Perfect Sessions box set fetches quite high on ebay. I would recommend getting the Remix DVDs instead. The R1 release has 6 volumes in total, with remastered 5.1 audio.

Yeah, I personally have the old boxset (Great set, BTW), but I'm seriously considering replacing my old discs with the new Remix ones when it gets cheap enough. Possibly getting the Thinpack release and then swapping the discs out or something.

Part of me doesn't want to support this repackaging of sets though, since they're doing it to Trigun and they did it to Eva as well, and I bought both of those series already!

I ended up buying the Perfect Sessions from sphiatt, but for under $20 i got the entire series, extra's and the movie. It was a great deal at the time, and the quality was great...but i do realize now that it is bootleg...but damn, it looks really professional. Still, i now buy my anime from amazon market place.

Any plans to release a box set of the Remix DVDs?

One thing I like about amazon marketplace is that people selling often look at the low prices and undercut the bootlegs not knowing any better. It's often people trying to unload junk but a I have gotten a couple gems there. Hellsing boxed set for 10.00, escaflowne limited edition for 15.00, etc.

As for quality I'm not sure what kind of setups you guys are watching these dvds on but stuffing 20+ episodes of anime on a couple discs has got to take a toll quality wise. Most American transfers are bad enough... Then again I used to be happy watching fansubs on RM and vivo.

Well, i dont have an HDTV or anything. Just a regular 27" TV. The quality is as good as, if not better than seeing it on TV, and thats fine by me (again, no HDTV...yet). Escaflowne Limited Edition for $15...that would be amazing if i coudl find it for that price!

Not all bootlegs are like that. Some of the better bootlegs are exact 1:1 reproductions of the originals, or sometimes the originals are single layer while the bootlegs are dual layer.

i remember when this first came out, i was like "oh i'll buy it later maybe it'll be cheaper". i didnt realize it was limited edition. also, the box is so well made. unlike any boxset released 2 or 3 years later by all anime companies. this release was also individually numbered, they only released 1000 or 5000 i cant exactly remember, i was at the bandai panel 3 years ago talking about this (the guy from bandai jerry bragged how he has the "0001" box). he also mentioned that the boxset will never be released again and has no plans to re-release anytime in the future. maybe the remixes will be but its not the same as the original!
imports/bootlegs are EVIL

just thought i should throw that in there for DRAMATIC effect...
Why would you consider imports of the legitimate Japanese goods are evil? Because you thought you're paying way too much for them?

What a douchebag.

I'm sure they'll release a different box set of some kind. As long as it's profitable, and the EVA boxsets have shown us it is, they'll do it.

What are the Remix discs like? I only have the originals.

Video is largely the same but audio has been remastered to 5.1 from the Japanese source.

The Bebop box is technicaly designed to hold the 6 discs of the series and the Movie. The cd is just kinda a placeholder.
