Okay, some of you guys know I've been planning on trading in some games to buy a Cube now that GS has the extra 30% deal going on.

I called earlier in the week to make sure my games would be enough, and the guy on the phone assured me that I since I was trading in six games I could still get 30% off on all of them.

Well, I go up to Gamestop this afternoon and a manager that I've never seen before and some other dude who thought he knew his shit were working. Now keep in mind, all the other GS employees I've met have been pretty damn cool and I like them and all.

Well, I told them I wanted to trade the games in, and they started ringing me up. I noticed the clerk was just scanning the games like normal so I told them that I'm supposed to get the extra 30% off.

Then he replied that he didn't think the deal was going on anymore and I had to show him a sign on the front of his counter that said otherwise.

Then he really didn't know how to ring up the 30% off deal so the manager had to come over to help him. I started perusing some magazines and hearing them murmer to each other. One particular sentence I heard was when the manager said to add the 30% to three of the games.

Immediately I told them that since I'm trading in six games, I should get 30% two times, one on each three-game lot. He then told me that he wouldn't do that.

I told him that I talked to an employee on the phone and they told me it wouldn't be a problem. He just gave the sorry excuse "Well, I don't know who you talked to."

There were a couple people in line behind me and I could hear this mom let out a sigh of frustration at me because I was "holding everything up." I wanted to turn around and tell her ugly ass to shut the hell up, but I remained calm.

So I wasn't going to let his ass take six of my games and only give me 30% on three of them, so I told them that I only wanted to trade in three now and I would come back later.

This pissed him off and he told me that I had to a wait an hour before I came back and traded them in. WTF, is up with that shit? Don't you just love this random and made-up rules these managers have?

I got my $58 in credit for three games I paid $20 for and was happy about that but I kinda wanted to stay around and argue with his ass. Honestly, what damn difference would it have been to just let me trade in the other games right then?

I know he just made that shit up to piss me off.

So long story short, the Wichita Falls Gamestop manager is a supreme dick.

I plan on going back tomorrow when his ass isn't there and get my Cube.

He pissed you off? Then don't ever buy there. You shouldn't have even traded in those games. People, understand one thing about retail- if you don't like the service or price somewhere, DON'T SHOP THERE. And tell everyone else not to. If enough people do it, they will change.

You should have asked for the manager's name, and then asked what the store number was, and say something about the BBB. That might of caused him to reconsider.

well, the gamestops around me are great and most of the ebgames are,but a couple of them have a lot of jerks in there.

i try to avoid gamestop and ebgames..mostly because they have someone working there(managers and employees alike) that thinks they're just way too cool because they work at a game store and make minimum wage

recently bought a game at GStop, returned right away after i found out that CC had it for a lower price..reason no. 1 to avoid gs and eb: no pricematch

and my only purchase at EB has been for a sealed copy of Viewtiful Joe..the other one they had was a floor copy..reason 2: don't want to get suckered into getting a floor copy passed off as new

You're right, provided the store is doing what it should. In this case, GA was entitled to the extra %30 on all of his games. And yes, the promotion is still on, I was doing it for people today.

the funny thing is i work for gamestop
and i hate it so much there i am leaving to a another job soon and i can totally agree with u guys bout stupid emplooyes i have a few in my store in ny.if u guys are not satisfied with a certain store or employee get the number of there district manager and trust me they will chew them out.and get the corporate hotline number as well

so you had a bad experience with one gamestop manager and you hate all of them?

A good thing you didn't have a bad experience with a black guy.
so you had a bad experience with one gamestop manager and you hate all of them?

Thank you for that ridiculous analogy.

its sucks that your gamestop is lame, at the gamestop i work at we always hook up customers letting em do stuff like that, bumping up trade values and giving away freebies, because were nice, but ive definantly been to ones that have lame employees.

also at the gamestop i work at we will price match, we just call the store and ask their price, maybe thats a store to store policy, find out who the DM is and complain

The analogy is not ridiculous. It's exactly the same thought process that results in racism:

"A person of group X did something I disapprove of. I'll start hating all people of group X since they must be the same".

I don't think all black people are supposed to follow the same corporate policy a la gamestop.

I'm sorry, I should have made the black guy an Asian.

Seriously, the analogy works because you know the analogous though is very wrong. It's an excellent analogy. Admire it.

If the store manager had just followed policy, I'm sure the OP would have been fine with it. But the "random and made-up rules" were the source of his anger.

No, it's just an extremely rash argument that is meant to incite people not prove any kind of point.

It's really not. It was meant as a "think about what you said. It doesn't make any sense. You can hate the person who wronged you, but don't hate people you haven't even met".

I don't see anything wrong with what eldad said. So what if this is a videogame board? He didn't say anything racist. In fact, it was decidedly not racist. Everybody needs to chill and let this topic go back to what it was made for, hatin' on stupid buyers.
It's really not. It was meant as a "think about what you said. It doesn't make any sense. You can hate the person who wronged you, but don't hate people you haven't even met".
I just think it's a stupid argument, I just don't see how hating a corporation that follows certain set policies that the OP doesn't like equates to hating a race, all of which act independent.

The OP didn't say he hated the corporation, he said he hated gamestop managers. And again: It's not the company's policy he resented, it's the "random and made-up rules".

I still don't see what any of this has to do with hating black people like you originally said.

OK, let's go over it again.

The OP said "I hate gamestop managers" because of an experience he had with one gamestop manager.

That's the same thought process - projecting from one particular person into an entire group of people - that also facilitates racism.

This was such a simple analogy. I hope I don't have to explain it any further. It's getting boring for me, and, I'm sure, for anybody else reading this.

I'm way over attempting to argue with you, you just refuse to admit you're an idiot for that stupid analogy.

To summerize here is the bottom line, your analogy was stupid and ridiculous and gamestop sucks.

I have no idea why you took upon yourself to try and be the champion of gamestop, but it's really stupid, lots of people here hate gamestop and eb, so move on and find some other cause to stand up for.

You really have no clue what I'm saying, do you?

You gave no (valid) reason for dismissing the analogy, and I certainly did not defend Gamestop.

THERE IS NOTHING MORE TO BE SAID!, I just said it (look above). So move on to a new topic.

EDIT: After looking at your previous posts, I've decided I don't really like you. It seems that 90% of the time when you post, it is something snide and smart-ass and usually helpful to no one.

rascism is prevalent in our society, not so much because of the people that practice it, but because of the people that allow it to continue, by ignoring it, and therefore practicing passive rascism. It is disturbing that so many of you would react so strongly to a perfect analogy just because it references a black guy. If he mentioned not ever dating again because of a broken heart, the replies, if any, would have been extremely mild. I haven't heard one piece of logic that refutes the analogy. Hating all gamestop managers due to the actions of one of them, is the same as hating all blacks due to the actions of one of them.

the analogy does make sense, but id say that hating all gamestop managers because of what one did isn't even close to half as bad as hating all black/white/asian/etc ppl because of what one black/white/asian/etc person did

i personally don't judge ppl until i see/meet them, i may have a certain caution b4 seeing/meeting them, but i won't hate/dislike/like/love them just because of something that i heard or something that someone similar to them has done

i may have a certain caution b4 seeing/meeting them(?) please elaborate.

BTW, props on the way you handled that ebay situation, and thanks for the advance look at the weekly ads

I agree with you, trust - hating GS managers isn't even close to hating all people of one race. But I think part of eldad's point was that Grave's "logic" in hating all GS manager's was identical to the "logic" used by some people to justify racist attitudes.

Does that make his analogy extremely inflammatory? Absolutely. Does it make it flawed? Slightly, but his example still works.

I mean, there are some cool GS managers (current and former) that inhabit these boards. Surely Grave can't hate them sight unseen?

In summary:

1. Grave - don't hate on all the GS managers.
2. Don't hate black people. Or people of any race for that matter.

Goddamn it! for the last time his analogy was stupid, I could care less that he used a black guy as an example it's just a dumb analogy. On top of all that the guy is an idiot (eldad), I dare you to take a good look at his prior posts, and tell me that the vast majority are not snide and smart ass comments designed to help no one.

Thanks Tom (By the way, that's my real name), I'm glad someone else agrees.

Damn guys, what the hell? I know I said I hate all Gamestop managers, but I figured a few of you would be able to read the anger in the post and realize my anger was directed at one Gamestop manager and not all of them. Of course I don't hate all GS managers. Hell, I don't even hate my local GS manager, I was just pissed as hell at him.

Eldad, I really don't know what you were trying to get at when you posted what you did other than trying to start an arguement. If it was actually a well-intended post, then forgive me, but I didn't read it that way.

And yes, the analogy is along the same lines as what I said, but on an entirely different level.

Maybe the next time someone says he hates mosquitoes because they always piss him off, you can throw your black racism post in there to remind him that not all mosquitoes are bad and some can be pretty damn cool.

Weird I trade in 11 Games yesterday and the gamestop guy rang only 3 of them up at 30% bonus, then I told him to wait a minute while I checked if anything good was out. WHile I did that he checked out the poster display, and was like "hey, good news your trade credit will be going up" and then rang me up another $15 or so in trade credit which was slick.

Are you sure that's the 30% on the other six games? When I went back the second day to trade in my remaining six games that's what the clerk said too. He rang up my games and was like "Today is your lucky day because you get an extra 30% on your games."

Update: Well, I ended up going back and trading in my other games. I had about $78 in credit and bought a used Platinum Cube with a Madcatz memory card. The card was only $7.99, so why not?

I get back home and begin to open the system and notice that the vent opposite to the side with the fan is broken. It looks like it either fell or something was dropped on it.

So I have to drive all the way back to the mall and explain what happened. The dick manager along with his dumbass sidekick were there, but the coolest employee was there, too. I had to talk to the sidekick about it what happened. Thankfully, he goes to the cool guy and he goes in the back and brings me out another Platinum Cube that some guy just traded in.

This one is still in the box with all the manuals and is in mint condition. I thank the cool guy a lot and he apologizes telling me that he'd never sell me a broke system on purpose, and I believe him.

I then went to buy Metroid Prime for $11 at Target.

Although eldad should have been able to realize the post was an exaggeration of the OP's anger towards a particular Gamestop manager.. it doesn't make the analogy any less correct. If you hate every member of a particular group because of the actions of one.. well thats how racism/bigotry starts.

I'm sorry if people here get inflamed at the mention of racism.. and are too dense to understand a perfectly good analogy.. but let it drop people.

Oh, and Gamestop does not suck (as so eloquently stated by some posters here), its a successful corporation that receives quite alot of my hard-earned money. For future reference, any coporation that is successful enough to become a national chain.. does not "suck". There's a reason they do well and grow, its because they provide a product or service that people wish to spend their money on, and they do it well.
