So given that I can't log into my account on my Xbox One, I've sunk quite a bit of time into DS2.

Really a great sequel to the original and amazed it made it slightly easier in ways and tougher in others.

So what is everyone else's experience so far?

Mine is its awesome. Well worth the price tag. Granted I did horribly early on as I just played through Darksiders 2 and man is that 2 opposite ends of the spectrum.

Just tried a warrior and a cleric. If you are well versed in roll/party etc the warrior will suit you well.

Cleric is a warrior light, but adds a heal spell for in between fights (basically a Eustus). Makes it easier early on.

(MILD SPOILERS, FIRST AREA)

I spent about 5 hours with a sorcerer and was really down on the game. I love Dark Souls 1 but magic in these games are just not my thing and I felt the Forest of the Giants was kind of a weak area to be honest and the Dragon Rider boss just fell off and died so I kinda got cheated out of a cool fight. So I started over with a knight and I'm having a much better time, melee combat in these games are just too good. Can't wait to put more time in.

So I just about tossed my controller. Was a stupid fault of mine and lost WAY too many souls.

The new travel system I like and the ability to "clear" an area if you grind there enough. I think if you kill the same enemy like 15 times they won't spawn anymore or something towards that effect.

Conversely I both like and HATE the new life system where you lose like 10% of your total health capped at 50%. Those that haven't played it yet. When you die you lose a small portion of your max health (meaning you cannot heal to full) this stacks on deaths to 50% of health. So after you die so many times you only spawn and can heal up to 50% of your max health. This is from your hallow building up. To alleviate this you must burn an item at a bonfire. Those items are hard to come by early which makes the learning curve VERY high to get back into the swing of things. I do like it because it gives me a much more focused perspective as if I die there is a painstakingly harsh penalty instead of just running in and dying over and over to learn a battle.

The boss I faced so far isn't as memorable as the first Dark Souls, the areas are beautiful and well made with those awful corner turns into an enemy.

I am a Dark Souls fiend. I played DS1 more hours than I care to say, and so far, i'm loving this one.  I like how you can be invaded while hollow and even after you beat the boss. What I don't like is that human effigy doesn't seem farmable and there is only a certain amount(at least from what i've played). It's making me very stingy about using them.

Also, about the losing more health every time you die and are hollow, there is a ring you can get fairly early on that let's you only lose 25% of your total health while hollow...no matter how many times you die.

I agree with you about the effigy, you can only buy a certain amount from the witches. The maps contain some if you gave a guidebook you will kno where to look. I always get stingy when I'm reaching 4 left.
