I have been playing Dark Souls 2 for about a month now, and i really enjoy it. well walmart had a special on the first dark souls for $6.88. so i got it, and damn it is making me look like a punk.  I have a hard time finding people to help me in co op. Dark Souls 2's co op is so easy.  I beat Demon's Souls back when it first came out, but so far the hardest one for me is dark souls.

What are your guys thoughts on this series of games?

I've never played Demon's Souls but my experience with both Dark Souls games is that it gets a lot better or at least easier when you find that weapon/armor/loadout that you REALLY mesh with.

The Souls series is my favorite franchise to come out in recent years. It's up there with game series I've been playing for years like Megaman, Zelda, Metal Gear and other classics. Really looking forward to Dark Souls 3.

I have never played it either, but a friend of mine says it's rough. He died too many times to count. I know I'd be awful at it though, so I haven't bothered to try yet.

This game is kicking my ass too. I was stuck on the climb down to the Ash Lake for a long time and now I'm stuck in Sen with the wrong build for my playstyle. Turns out I'm more into dodging than parrying or tanking after playing Bloodborne, which seems a lot easier for me to get into. I guess it makes sense since I'm big on DMC.

I'm an oddball here bc I played a little of demon souls about 3 years ago when it was free w/ ps+....long story short, didnt care for it at the time. Then a buddy of mine talked me into picking up ds2 after a ton of protest from me. I absolutely loved it!!! Put at least 200 hrs into it (which for a dad of 2 thats a ton of time).

Then the xb1 came out and I kind of shelved my 360 and I never made it back to playing Dark Souls. I bought scholar of the first sin, put another 150 or so hrs into ds2 in again hah. I also recently bought a ps4 honestly primarily to play Bloodborne, which I recently finished and am working through ng+ and the dlc.

So tonight I finally got back around to hooking up my 360 and dove into the original dark souls. I guess its time since ds3 is fast approaching. I was worried that the game would look pretty dated since Ive pretty much only played ps4 or xb1 games over the last 2.5 years, but I've got to say the first couple hours worth of graphics look pretty good. The main thing is the crazy difference in speed between this and Bloodborne....wow what a change!! (but now I can use my shield if i so choose hah)

Whats everybody elses thoughts on rank of difficulty across the franchise? Since ive only completed 2 of the games I can only speak for them and I think Bloodborne slightly edges out DS2 in difficulty, but the dlc in DS2 is really rough in spots.

Easiest to Hardest for me so far:

Bloodborne>Demon Souls>Dark Souls 2: SotFS>Dark Souls

I haven't finished either Dark Souls games yet, but I don't see myself changing the order. Bloodborne is REALLY fun. KirkHammer FTW

You think dark souls is the hardest of the bunch? Doesn't bode well for me bc I doubt there's much opportunity for summons at this point in the game's life cycle hah.

And yes, bloodborne is a ton of fun that was without a doubt a great reason to finally pick up a ps4. My second time through I've been using the blades of mercy. They wreck individual enemies so fast. Not that great against big guys and bosses though bc it takes so long to stagger them. Haven't really used the kirkhammer though bc of how long it takes to swing. Maybe I'll give it another try.

Like I said before, I'm pretty sure I have the wrong build for my style of play, BUT I'm using a greatsword in DS2, so I dunno? :D

KirkH has a big wind up, but it absolutely destroys everything once you get used to the timing. The only reason why I ended up choosing it to begin with is to have a weapon that's more DS-style because I wasn't a huge fan of the cleaver. The irony!

I tried playing the first Dark Souls again after months away. I was less than 10 hours deep as is. But I died twice, and something weird happened. The first time, I respawned at the same bonfire where I started when I loaded my save. After my second death, I got sent back to an earlier bonfire, costing me a ton of progress. Was that supposed to happen? I thought you were always transported back to your most recently used bonfire upon death.

well with my experience, it seems that, yes, you do go back to the last bonfire that you actually sit down at. i know in DS2, if you are in co op, you can light a bonfire, but since you are in co op, it wont let you sit down at it. if that happens, and you light a bonfire but dont sit at it, then you will go to the last bonfire that you did actually sit down at.

also, Sens Fortress is where i currently am, i have been stuck there for a month now, at least, i get so far, and then i die, everytime, it made me so mad, that i went back to DS2, but now that i think about it, im going to give it another shot. :)

So I'm about 2/3rds done with the game I think, but I completely missed Heide's Tower and now I'm WAY over-leveled for it! Oh well.

I just made it through sens fortress yesterday and started anor londo. The good news is that the boss in sens fortress is actually pretty easy once you make it to him. I think I'm presently lvl 55 or so and I'd be happy to help if you want to summon me if you're playing on 360. Xbl is whatab0utb0b (the o's are zeroes)

Finally made it through Anor Londo. Man that Orstein & Smough fight is rough! And so is getting to them. Sheesh, the archers on building ledges....I wanted to pull my hair out  :wall:

Clearing out some other bosses now in the demon ruins and on my way to collect the major souls!

And seeing this the other day just reinforces my inadequacy - http://kotaku.com/dark-souls-player-beats-game-without-getting-hit-1759227033

The guy can't be human...

Dark Souls was a much better built game, and the combat was much more fluent IMO. Also, the gear mattered much more, it seems stats in DS2 are either very minimal increases, or only have soft caps and stop effecting you as much later on?

Finally beat DS2 last night. The last boss was pretty easy with Jugo and me being at level 150+. I think I'm going back to Dark Souls and re-evaluate my gear since I've figured out my play-style as well as understanding weapon stats a lot better. Hopefully I can finish it out before DS3, but I still have Tomb Raider and TLOU to finish up too.

I played and finished Demon's Souls last year and I definitely enjoyed it!  It's one of those games that, even less than a year alter, I still think about from time to time.  The lore is what hooked me - every character I came across had an interesting back story.

I'm thinking about starting Dark Souls soon.  For those who have played both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, do you miss the Nexus?

Dark Souls 2 kinda goes back to it with Majula, and Bloodborne has something very similar to the Nexus. I wish they'd make Demon's Souls 2, but Sony says no way :(

Thanks for the reply! Good to know about Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne. I agree, it would be awesome if they'd make a Demon's Souls 2! I loved how the worlds/levels/areas in the kingdom were so diverse and unique yet dark and tragic adding more meat to the lore. I would have loved to see how these places used to be before the events that took place in the game.

Listening to this brings back good memories:

As much as she said it, it never got old

I sure as hell do. Needing to unlock fast-travel late in the game absolutely sucks.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to getting started now. I hope for me it will not be too much of a distraction. Thanks for the reply. :)

Finally got through Sen last night. Somehow, I managed to dl the latest update and played online for the first time. I kept seeing someone die at the front door, so I left a summon. Got summoned and we tag teamed an invader. After we defeated it, I decide to follow the host down to the tar pit and got one-shotted by the one-legged freak after I landed. After dying in the tar pit for an hour, I figured out that it wasn't the way to go and resumed my climb to the boulder room. The final gauntlet got me a few times before I realized that there's a space I could wait and the rest was gravy all the way to the boss.

Now to Anor to finally get some of that nerfed fast travel action.

After looking over my stats and gear, I decided to stick with what I had. Playing DS2 was a good trainer, so going back to DS was an easier transition.

Finally beat it this afternoon. The last few areas REALLY suck. Instant lava deaths, transparent bridges, and absolute darkness? Yeah, no thanks. If it wasn't for Havel's gear and Iron Flesh, I probably would've never made it past the final boss.

I think I'm going to wait on DS3 and play some games that won't kick my ass so hard.

Started playing Dark Souls tonight and so far it appears to be easier than Demon's Souls.  It seems that the more I died the stronger I became because I had to fight the same enemies to get back to my lost souls - eventually spending those souls to level up increasingly becoming stronger and stronger, mastering the area.  I've went ahead and tested online just to see if it's something I would enjoy and I must say that it does add a lot more to the gameplay.  I was invaded once and defeated of course but I think I like playing hollow getting help and helping out other players.

So far I've made it out of the Asylum and into Lordna (sp?).  Went down to this swamp place where I had no business, left there and head up the stairs - fighting the weaker enemies until I got to this black knight.  I'm wondering that I may need to level up more before taking a go at him again.

Not sure what SL you are, but black knights are actually pretty easy. You can circle and riposte. If you miss the riposte, you still hit him and still be pretty safe with a quick hitting weapon.

On another note, I picked up Bloodborne again through the redbox sale and am going to finish the chalices as well as doing the dlc. Can't wait!
