(DEAD) All seasons of Stagate SG-1 on sale on amazon.com for $13.99 each

Was this any good of a show? Like if I thought Battlestar Galactica was the best sci-fi TV show ever made (totally is), would I think this was better or worse? ;)

You would think it was worse, but that's a pretty high standard to hold any show to. Stargate takes itself far less seriously than Battlestar did, in many ways it's a very different type of show. That's not really a knock against it though, it's a wonderful franchise.

Something to note, if you want the whole thing the complete series box set is actually cheaper:

I have it, and while the packaging is not great by any means, it's also not as bad as some other complete sci-fi series (looking at you Star Trek:TNG). Plus, it comes in a box with a gigantic Stargate on it, it looks quite cool on a shelf. It's still definitely a series you're gonna want to take straight out of the box and put in a CD binder though.

Way different tone than Galactica.. I prefer Stargate, but loved Galactica.

Also, a couple Galactica actors did do some guest spots on SG-1.

I tried to get this from both Costco and Amazon and in both cases, multiple discs were damaged to the point of being unplayable in anything I put the discs into. The cardboard holder idea is completely ridiculous and does too much damage to the discs.

These sets are slimpacks, so smaller number of discs means more packed on the discs, which can be an issue if they don't do the compression correctly. I picked up the non-slimpacks back from Costco when they had them B1G1 @ $25 and have had no issues with them at all. Slimpacks, I can't say for certain.

It's pretty cookie cutter sci-fi storywise. The character/actors are what make the show watchable. It's definitely not a serious as BSG.

Neither of them hold a candle to Farscape though :D

Darknuke,

It is actually a good show. I would say probably until Season 8. From Season 8 and later it was really weak. This was the best Stargate Show as Atlantis was kind of weak and Universe is more character-driven, I guess the same as Battlestar Galatica (I should probably watch but the idea of an evolved human going after other humans is something I have to get used, plus the judas-like guy. betraying the human-like community for the evolved-like humans.
I've never seen Stargate or Battlestar Galactica and I consider myself a sci-fi fan. I need to hand in my nerd card don't I? :(
Yes. Either that or start watching them right now.

Tempting but.... a full box set ($93.99) is still alot cheaper, shame I hear that packaging is really bad for the discs but if they remastered these for those that had skipping and freeze issues I would jump in.

Stargate SG-1 was probably my favorite sci-fi show of all time. I thought BSG was overly boring, but put up with it for the once-in-a-blue-moon badass parts.

I think the hook for me for SG-1 was how they "explained" mythology/theology... especially the fact that their explanation is far more reasonable than "gods."

I've watched all of battlestar and i thought this show was way better (blasphemy i know) but maybe its just because i watched all ten seasons of SG-1 first before i ever heard of battlestar.

Battlestar Galactica definitely has the glitzier special effects which usually makes or breaks most sci-fi series, but watching the later seasons for me was way too serious and really made it less enjoyable than the earlier seasons. The tenseness of the later episodes just made it less likely I would rewatch the series as good as it is.
