[Dead] Kessen III Pre-Order $26.60 Overstock.Com $28 shipped

I'm kinda amused that Overstock does preorders, since that seems kind of out of touch with their name... Anyways, is the Kessen series any good?

I have Kessen II and it's okay. Kind of like Dynasty Warriors with an attempt to make it more strategic. I prefer the more viseral action of Dynasty Warriors though and Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders does the action/strategy mix very well if you have an Xbox.

Kessen III has received awesome scores from the Japanese mags (somewhere in the 36-38 range in Famitsu), and slightly more average scores here in the states.... it's supposedly a big improvement over the prior two games...

I wasn't planning on getting Kessen 3 right away, but for that price I shall, since I have some funds in my paypal account.

Yeah, there seems to be a lot of Romance of Three Kingdoms -ish games, and i've been trying to figure which ones to check out. Thanks for the opinion!

Koei has been beating the hell out of the Three Kingdoms era for years now. There's basically three main series they've been exploiting:
  • Romance of the Three Kingdoms: the granddaddy of them all, this is their epic turn-based strategy series, which has been around since at least the Genesis/SNES days; the ninth(!) game came out last February.
Dynasty Warriors: mostly mindless hack-n-slashers, where you control a lone hero fighting in the midst of major battles, which are influenced by your performance; DW4 Empires added some strategic elements to the mix, helping to liven up a tired formula.
Dynasty Tactics: another turn-based strategy series, this time focusing on individual battles (vs the epic scale of the RotTK series); sorta straddles the line between strategy-RPGs and conventional strategy games, IMHO.
The Kessen games are real-time strategic-combat games; the first and third games are set in medieval Japan, while the second one was set in the Three Kingdoms era. So I don't consider it part of their main lineup of RotTK games.

So is Kessen III a whole different game from Kessen II? Or is just an updated version set in a different place/time? I know for the other series, it's been recommended to me to just get the latest one.

Thanks Dropout! This was yet another title coming out that I dreaded waiting for the price to drop. $28.00 shipped works for me! You rock.

Anyone else thinking this might be a pricing error considering its $50 price tag everywhere else? I'm just worried that since they bill immediately my money will be lost to the void of "ships in 1-2 weeks" forever.

Uhm....Koei beats the hell outta all of their titles. It's quite ridiculous.

I'll give them a call today !!

Got mine in the mail yesterday. Really cool game, though I didn't get to play it too long. DMC 3 kinda stole my attention. ;)

I got mine in the mail on Monday. If they did screw up, at least they honored their mistake. Some places wouldn't do that.
