someone from GameFAQs posted this, it might work, it might not, I mean I thought it was for preorder only too when I read it (because of the Prebk in the Mfg Part #) but then he gave us a link to this guy's message, saying he actually went in and showed them a printed copy of it, and they had to honor it...

Bank Error in your favor! Collect 40 dollars!

Seriously, they messed up on their site, I printed this out and took it to CompUSA (notice the "reserve in-store only!" to the right), and basically said I want to reserve this game at this price. The clerk had to call a manager who looked it up in their system and sure enough, gave it to me for that price. He knew it was a mistake and said as much, but basically admitted that it's the company's fault and that they had to honor it at that price. So it's paid off in full and will be waiting for me Nov. 9th. SCORE!

Yeah, the Spider Man 2 price was what I read on another sites board and got me to the CompUSA site. So I started thinking about what other games might be buggered on there and checked Halo 2.

And I specifically asked if this was just 10 bucks to put down on a pre-order, only to pay the other 40 when it released and the manager said it was a screw-up by the website department and 10 dollars would be the total retail price. I've got a receipt and everything.

I wouldn't go as far as pre-ordering 10 copies at that price, though you could make a pretty penny outside a GameStop or EB on Nov. 9th undercutting them right outside the store.

"Pssst..hey kid? You want Halo 2 for only FORTY bucks?" hehehe.

I may give this a try for the hell of it in the next couple days, I'm probably going to be near a compusa when I try to hunt down Mega Man collection and the worst they can do is just tell me no.

If any of you guys do and succeed, can you pick one up for me? since there is no CompUSA around...heh, Ill be willing to pay up to 20 for one...

Same here. I'd really appreciate it.

Guys,

This seems ridiculous to me. How do you know CompUSA is going to honor anything the day Halo 2 comes out. You think you are going to show them a receipt for 9.99 and they're going to give you Halo 2?

The law is the law.

The upside is worth the time wasted trying to get the deal, though. Nothing to lose if you can make it to their store without hassle. You never know...I hope our fellow CAGers get in on it.

I would do this if CompUSA wasn't semi out of my way around here. Not worth the round trip for me if it's not guaranteed to come to fruition.

Holy crap. Did you guys see the price for Spiderman 2 that someone mentioned up there?

I'm gonna try this in two hours. CompUSA is about an hour and a half away.. but Halo 2 for 10 bucks, it's worth it. I'm gonna be a really, really cheap ass and call and inquire about it.. if they give me lip, I can fax a copy of the printed out piece of paper.. if it all works, they could fax a receipt and stuff..

Yeah, I know, there's like a 0.000000000000000000001% chance that it'll actually work out this way, but hey, what the hell, right?

I'm gonna try after work...do you go to CompUSA and show them the online thing and ask for it or what? What should I say? I'll try to get more than one.

Thanks.

It might work. This happened to me on Icewind Dale 2. I put 10 down for a preorder but when I went to pick it up, they said it was paid in full. I remember the guy saying it was a mistake but they couldn't charge me anymore.

"Reserve in-store only!" does not mean "sell product for". So... I really hate to be a skeptic... but this seems to only "reserve" a copy. Now I know the original post stated that the manager said this was the total sales price of the game and that the companies website screwed up. However, I can't see every Compusa agreeing with this manager. Just like the Thief deal at CC this one will probally be a per store deal.

Add me to the list. I'd gladly give $20.

I checked at a CompUSA in Rockville, MD at about 12:15. $10 was the price to reserve it, $49.99 is what it was going to cost.

Hey guys how does this work? What do you print out? I went to the CompUSA link and all it showed was some "conditions". What am I supposed to print out? I want to try this deal and Ill report it when it is done. Thanks

Bingo. Deal is dead. Link was active when I left, got there, it was dead.

*walks up to counter*
"Is this where I go to reserve a game?"
>We don't reserve games here.<
"At all?"
>Nope<
"But I have this printout that says reserve in-store.."
>Oh. Go to the customer service desk.<

:?

Anyways, the guy at the CS desk was nice. He ran a scan through the system, tried to pull it up on the site.. it was already gone. He went and called the Dallas store and said that the thing was supposed to go up next week, and it was a $10 pre-order.. the game will still cost $49.99.

So, no-go in Nashville.
Yeah but we should try another store maybe they just were too smart for him
Oh, right. I think I'd know if they were trying to pull something over on me. I have experience in this field, he legitely checked his computer. I didn't believe him so I went to an in-store computer and checked.

THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE PRICE!! If they do, it's for a PRE-ORDER RESERVE! The $10 is to guarentee your spot, the game is still $49.99!

Exactly. They've been doing that at all the big stores for ages with all kinds of games. Unless someone makes a monumental mistake, these games will never be sold for $10, all your $10 gets you is a guaranteed copy of the game. You still have to pay the balance.

^^^

I see you dont know much about computers... put you mouse on the picture for a few second and this button will come up in the bottom right click it and it will be normal sized.

Thanks BFG9K. worked great. Now, after seeing this ad for the first time I wonder why compUSA employees were confused and I dont see anyway that anyone could get Halo 2 for $10. The manufacturer's part number clearly states that this price is for a preorder, not for the actual game.
