[DEAD]Yet Another ADV Sale

Ndolger

CAGiversary!
There's another ADV sale going on at their website:
http://www.advfilms.com/Sales.asp

Much more than they had a few weeks ago. Ends December 23rd, I'm not sure if they're including any free DVDs this time. I'm debating whether or not I want to pick up Chrono Crusade Complete Collection for $55. They really need to stop having these sales, they're killing me. ;)

Edit: Sale has been extended; it now ends December 27. Shipping is $5 for the first item, $1 for each additional item.
Edit: Sale's over.

Seems like they added more recent titles, but didn't put as big of a discount on them. I was waiting for FMP:Fumoffu to get added, but at $18 a volume, I'd rather go on down to bestbuy and pick them up for $19.99 and not have to worry about when they'll ship. :/

Ahhh...thank god for the older stuff they can barely move for $5 a pop. Even better if the titles are one-shots or OVAs!

Just be careful about manga purchases, though. ADV's manga line is getting quite notorious for starting series and then cancelling them, so a wide variety of the titles they have up will, at this point, never be finished.

I don't see anything new worthwhile (for the price). If you haven't already gotten a Mechazawa plushie you should. Also the Azumanga Daioh box + dvd comes with the 2 pins i think so for $8 that's a good deal.

If you do go for the Azumanga Daioh Box + DVD, be aware that it'll be difficult to get the remaining 5 DVD's for a good price to complete the set. If you don't care about translation notes or the pins, then go for the thinpack release.

I think the Chrono & DN Angel boxes for $54 are good deals, but im not that much of a fan to pay more than $50 for them. $27 for the Samurai X Directors Cut collection isnt that bad either.

I know theyre trying to get rid of their stuff, so i really dont get why the normal edition Rahxephon movie (dvd only) sells for $18 while the Limited Edition Rahxephon movie (which comes with a box and 52 page book) is only $9.

Anyone know what the main differences between the 2 Samurai X boxes are? (What makes the director's cut...the director's cut?)

Man, I hope I get my anime before Feburary. The shipping is expensive (paid 14 dollars) but at least I got some good animes. Too bad they don't give out tracking numbers though.

Does anybody know where to get those ADV coupon codes?
You can get the Kino's Journey box set for the same price as DDD, but with free shipping and better delivery time.
What the heck is DDD?

Deep Discount DVD. Free shipping, no tax, and quite often the best price on stuff they have.
I just dropped a couple hundred bucks at the 20% off sale.

I was interested in Princess Nine, that's a good series, but I was worried about the fine print:
"upc may be cutout, and full retail packaging may be missing."
And I didn't make it to see how much shipping was.

Shipping is $5 for the first item, and $1 for each additional item. They also use a small drill bit, and drill a hole through the UPC. I ordered $100+ worth of stuff off the last sale they had, and it really isn't too noticeable at all. The only problem I had was they ended up drilling completely through my Chrono Crusade vol. 1. But, it honestly doesn't make that much of a difference, unless you're a hardcore collector.

You know, I also thought it was related to Square's Chrono series when I first heard of it, but after watching it I can safely say, no, no it isn't. ;)

I bit. I'm a sucker for 'complete collections'.
Princess Nine
Devil Lady
Dai Guard collections

and the Menchi toy for my son.
57.00 shipped. Shipping did jack it up a bit, 8 bucks total, but when Princess Nine's cheapest priceaccording to dvd pricesearch is 38, call the stuffed animal 10 bucks anywhere else, that means the other two titles are virtually 9 bucks.
Now to buy some time to watch this stuff....actually, I'm going on a few business trips early next year, so I can probably get some good dvd'ing on the plane and in the hotel.

Of course, I've been billed, but have no idea when I may expect my stuff.

I dont see how so many people complain about $6 shipping for the first item and $1 per item after that. Even if you only order two items, just think of it as $3.50 an item for Fedex shipping. Most ppl on ebay charge $5-$10 to stick it in media mail.

I bit on Burn Up Excess Complete Collection, Burn Up W Essential Anime Collection, Burn Up! and Princess Nine Complete Collection. $49.00 shipped. Now I just hope ADV doesn't screw me with a shoddy product.

Hmm, ive participated in their last 3 sales, ive always gotten the products shipped in perfect condition, shrinkwrapped and all. The only thing they do is cut/stab the barcode.

Got my stuff today, shipped FedEx. DVD cases [three Complete Collections] still shrinkwrapped, though I haven't opened them yet. Drillthrough on the UPC code, but that's it. I can deal with that. The Menchi stuffed animal was wrapped in two plastic bags. I'm satisfied.

They do it so you dont go and try to sell it in your retail store. Same thing with promotional copies of DVD's, they either have a black strip on the barcode, or a hole punched in it.

Im still waiting for my freakin backorder...

Yeah, I don't have a problem with that. It's just enough to make returning it to a store or reselling via retail impossible, but not enough to damage the disks or be really obvious. I have won a few dvd's from contests that have been cutouts, and I think the Hot Shots Golf Fore I got from the mem card fiasco was the same way.
Some copies have 'Promotional Copy Not for Resale' instead of the UPC, but this is an easier way to do it, and it works for releases that were not originally promo copies.

The book industry does it too--if a paperback book is missing the front cover, it may have been reported as 'unsold and destroyed'
Why the hell do they mess with the bar code? I hope it isn't too bad...
It's really not... basically it's like sticking a tubtack through the barcode- just enough to keep it from scanning and tip people off it's a clearance item. And on the artboxes I ordered in the past, it wasn't even that bad- the 'hole' barely went through the top part of the paper.

I got mine about a week ago- the 3 Anime Essentials of Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, Debuante Detective Corps, Grrl Power. Discs are fine for being fairly loosely packed.

Don't worry too much if you don't have them yet- like the site says during these sales, purchase volume is high so allow 1-4 weeks for processing and shipping. I'd give till the 20th at least, then contact them.

Got my order in a few days ago. This being my second time ordering off one of their sales, and again no problems.
