Deal I posted was deleted; wha happen?

CAGiversary!
What are the grounds for getting posts deleted? I recently posted an item on how to get cheap games through a recycling service some towns in the US have. It was up for about 24 hours, with maybe 8 or so responses (including one of my own.) I also sent an e-mail to Cheapy alerting him to the deal as well.

When I click on either link for them my e-mail,l I get the page saying I can't access it for 3 set reasons. My profile indicates that I did make the posts but when you click that link, the site says the posts don't exist.

These were literally my first two posts; if I somehow violated CAG rules, I apologize. I'm just confused as to what warranted the deletion.

TIA for any help.

i dont get why mods cant just PM users affected when they do something and let them know (1) what they did and (2) why they did it

yesterday i tried to tag something for the first time in a month or two and realized i was banned from tagging, didnt know until then and have no idea why. a couple years ago when i received warnings i didn't know why either -- turned out they were for being critical of CAG's moderation, so i wouldn't be surprised if I get an (unexplained) warning for this post...

but for real every other forum has their mods PM users letting them know what the mod did and why they did it, i dont get why CAG doesnt do it

I don't know for sure because I didn't see the thread but based on what you're describing, I can only assume it was deleted because it was a "general knowledge" type post and wasn't listing a specific deal.

Yeah, the thing is it was an actual deal. The recycling program awards points which can be redeemed for coupons, two of which are for EA's online store. I'm getting a brand new PS3 copy of Brutal Legend for $5 total thanks to this deal.

Three possible reasons for the deletion:

 1. Someone thought it was a blatant advertisement for the recycling program.
 2. The program is admittedly not widespread in the US. Maybe a mod felt it was too obscure.
 3. I e-mailed Cheapy about the deal, which is some violation of protocol I'm not aware of.
I can PM the original post to you if you want to read it. I generally copy my postings to a text editor first for this reason.

Is there anyone other than Cheapy one can e-mail about this stuff? The guy's busy, but I'd love to see some sort of ground rules regarding deletions.

PS: If it was in the wrong forum, couldn't it have been moved rather than deleted?

1 and 2 sound very likely.

The backbone of the deal appears to be a recycling program that some towns have? Perhaps it wasn't a widespread enough deal and should have landed in Regional.

Also, it could have been mistaken for spam. Without seeing the original post, couldn't tell ya.

You know, the spam thing is a possibility. The people who responded didn't see it that way, but your logic makes sense. I and others included links to the recycling site, which may have crossed some line.

Again, if it's a violation, fine. Just PM me about it.

I'm real hesitant to post the original again as I don't want to get banned. I may just do it anyway. Are there any mods following this? Could you give me some sort of direction about this? Thanks.

PS: the program is national; there's not as many towns participating as I originally thought

My bet would be number 1. Since there are deals in the video games deals forum that better belong in the regional forums.

Having seen your original post my very first thought after checking it out was this belongs in regional, the listing of participating areas was so small its not really a deal as it was extremely Ymmv on whether you lived in a participating community.

Much appreciated. Regional it is. I'll see if it gets nuked there. Probably have to rewrite it as well.

I just wish there was some clarification or guidelines as to what's out-of-bounds. I really want to avoid the banhammer. Oh well, live and learn.

Back to anxiously awaiting my copy of God of War III. Need to kill cyclopes rising...

Don't worry about the banhammer here. CAG isn't like NeoGAF where you get hit just for posting your opinion that cheeseburgers are better than hotdogs or something. The moderation team here is pretty fair and will definitely warn you if you really doing something that's bannable. And it would have to be something pretty serious .. like posting/linking porn or some kind of scam.
similar request, why can't we be told when and why by cag when they delete our stuff?
I'm thinking about re-posting the Recyclebank deal later today. I'm going to re-word it, but as a few people above posited, it may have been interpreted as spam. As I mentioned in the OP, I also sent Cheapy an e-mail about the deal. In retrospect, that was kind of stupid. It's possible he thought he was getting spammed and acted accordingly.

IMO, it's a legitimate deal. If you have access to Recyclebank points, you can get EA games as low as $5, as I did with Brûtal Legend. For a game that was selling for $60 when it was released less than 6 months ago, that's almost unthinkable.

However, if you see any hammer shaped shadows hovering over my account, you might want to steer clear :)
Have either of you tried using the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page?
Honestly, no. I did a quick spin through the forums and apparently it's not uncommon for posts to get deleted with no explanation.

It's not something worth pursing, IMO. This is a fairly popular site and Cheapy, et. al., are busy enough without hearing my bellyaching. It'd be nice if there was a FAQ of some sort explaining what is and isn't kosher as far as posting deals.

I'm just trying to contribute to the community. If it gets deleted again, I'll just have to move on.
