So... You're letting us know they have hacked HDDs available? I wasn't aware that was a deal.

Maybe MS doesn't care now that they have flash drives available. Who knows.

Your sarcasm is not necessary. Yes, I am letting everyone, except people with comments like yours, know that there is a deal on hard drives. I don't give a flying :censored: if someone buys it or not. In comparison to the $125 MSRP on the genuine HDD, this is a deal (almost 50% off). Prior to my genuine 250 GB, I had a 60 GB unofficial drive, which never gave me any issues.

It's hardly a deal if you get your console banned ... and I happen to think his sarcasm was quite necessary.

Pretty sad you made a deal thread for a non official 250GB HDD. This can get your console banned... Not even a deal. Terrible.

I have a ton of buddies i burn 360 games for. Probably 2/3s of them have unofficial hard drives. Not a single one is banned(one has a jtagged box that plays CoD online and he is somehow getting away with it).

No one is getting banned by M$ anymore guys(ATM anyway).

I played Alan Wake and Red Dead the day they leaked and Im still not banned. I also play Red Dead, and CoD online, and am on Live every day.

(I also spend over 200 dollars a year on marketplace stuff, could be why).

I however, wouldnt buy a non M$ HDD(im sure everyone learned this in the N64/PS1 days).

But, I appreciate the thread!!!

wtf? you're talking about burned games and unofficial hard drives.

we're talking about people who actually buy shit.
Thanks for trying OP.

Non official HDDs are a bad idea.
Thanks- I was only trying to post a deal.
All these little crybabies getting all worked up about an unofficial drive? I had one and never got banned for it. Why is it being sold by Game Deal Daily, if it will get you banned?

Whatever...it isn't exactly earth shattering since you can get exact same thing off ebay for cheaper ($65 shipped)

You get banned by modding your console but not by having unofficial hard drives... Those things are a helluva deal. Sorry if that's a terrible thing to say.

whether you get banned or not... (i'll let you people debate it)

when you buy an unofficial hard drive, you run the risk that microsoft will cause certain things to not work correctly because you have an unofficial drive.

For now, it might be certain BC games. In the future, who knows. But as I said, stay away.

Question: Why Won't Original Xbox Games Work On My Xbox 360?
Answer: A question that comes up every once in a while that seems to stump everybody is some variation of "I just got an Xbox 360 but it won't play original Xbox games. Why not?". It is a tricky question because there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to play OG Xbox games on your Xbox 360 (as long as they are on the BC list) and you have a hard drive attached to your 360. The system variations (Arcade, Pro, Elite, etc.) don't matter one bit in regards to backward compatibility as long as you have a hard drive attached to the system.
Then it hit me - If it isn't the system that is preventing backward compatibility from working, it must be the hard drive. With a little research (notably here and here) it seems that a common thread between people that can't get backward compatibility to work on their Xbox 360 is that they bought their hard drives off of eBay.

Why Is This?

Simple. Certain eBay sellers try to make more money by buying 20GB official Microsoft Xbox 360 hard drives for cheap, and then putting larger laptop hard drives into the official 360 hard drive case and then selling them for less than an official drive of the same size would be. Now, technically, these hacked hard drives are the exact same thing as an official one, at least as far as parts go. They will function exactly the same as an official drive. But many of the sellers that sell these drives forget (or might be just plain ignorant about) one important thing – to play backward compatible Xbox games, the hard drives need a special partition for the Xbox 360 to store BC-related data in. If the hard drive doesn’t have that partition, you can’t play backward compatible games with it.

What Can You Do?

There isn’t really much you can do other than just be wary. It can be hard to tell if a hard drive you buy off of eBay has been tampered with because they’ll look exactly the same as an official one on the outside. They might look new, but you can’t ever be 100% sure about anything you buy on eBay. Some sellers might have even made sure to partition the hard drive correctly so it’ll work and you’ll have no problems, but not all of them do and that is where the problem comes in.

If you don’t care about backward compatibility, you don’t need to worry about this. Everything else will function exactly like an official one. If you do want to use your Xbox 360 to play original Xbox games, you just need to ask the right questions of the seller before you buy a 360 HDD. Ask them if it is an official or hacked drive. And if it is a modified drive, ask them if it has the necessary partitions. If they don’t give you a straight answer or don’t understand the question, don’t buy from them.

Bottom Line

So, to answer the question “Why won’t original Xbox games work on my Xbox 360” there really is only one answer – Your cheap eBay hard drive might not be as official as you thought and is missing key files that allow for backward compatibility. The solution - Buy official Xbox 360 accessories from established retailers, or if you want to save a few bucks on eBay, make sure you ask the right questions so you know what you're getting.

I would love to really find out (from a reliable source), so I decided to send XBox an email asking if I would get banned for installing an unofficial HDD in my 360.
Opinions are like :censored:, everyone has one (looks like half of them in here are wrong!)

you did what?? Good luck turning on your 360 later tonight...

I love the talk of "I been playing haxored games since day one of them being out" on this thread. Dont know about MS banning your asses but hopefully cheapy or a mod will. Thats the type of shit we dont need around here IMO.

Don't worry about it.

I say they are a bad idea mainly b/c MS cracked down on unofficial MUs a few months back. They other reason is the chance of data loss.

Will MS ban you? Maybe. Maybe not. As always caveat emptor and YMMV

Those additional arguments such as data getting corrupt, I can agree with. However, people are taking the link that I posted from GameDealsDaily as bad as offering crack to a child. I can personally testify that I did have an unofficial HDD with my previous XBox and never got banned. I now have a genuine 250 GB HDD with my new XBox, and personally would not purchase an unofficial drive
However, some some people neither care and would take the opportunity of saving $60 by buying an unofficial vs. official brand.

I'm just gonna say THANKS!!!! Whether or not you think its a deal, I can't imagine this is your first experience clicking on something on the internet that wasn't for you.....just be cool guys, be cool......

No, i'm saying that they've always been that price, thus, I wasn't aware this was a deal. You're defensive for some unknown reason, especially since you couldn't care less if anyone buys them.

And the whole point of me saying 'Maybe MS doesn't care' is a statement, not sarcasm. Since they released the entire concept of allowing people to use flash drives, maybe they care less how people choose to store their junk.

I'm sure the way you speak means you translate most of the internet to sarcasm, but there are no tones on here. Just a bunch of words. And i'm not sure what 'people with comments like mine' means, since there was only one like it before mine.

You're funny.
LOL. what's the next deal? Hot consoles off the back of a truck?
Trust me, if the price is right, I know people that would buy a hot system.

Me included.

Buddy, if you think that I was referring to "Maybe MS doesn't care" as sarcasm, you have bigger problems to deal with. I was reffering to "So... You're letting us know they have hacked HDDs available?"

That's Sarcasm!

It's sarcasm according to you. I wasn't aware which statement it was, so I took a guess. Silly me.

No use beating a dead horse, though.
