Holy shit are those things expensive.

I bought one for $40 and lasted me a semester before keeling over and dying 15 minutes ago.

Does anyone know where I can get a desk chair that doesn't suck and won't make me feel like I just got raped in the ass by a high price?
 
Just check around locally. I ended up finding a nice chair on clearance for around $30 (it was originally $200).
 
I found a nice one on clearance as well it was normally like $120ish or so and I got it for half price. Sold the one I had been using to a friend and just enjoyed my new one for about 8-9 months. Then before Christmas while leaning completely back like I do most of the time with my keyboard in my lap and my feet up on the desk, the bottom frame that holds the top of the pole to the chair broke halfway and I fell backwards in the chair and ALMOST crushed my cat.

I/ve bought another cheaper chair from staples and the frame design looks sturdier than the design on the more expensive chair. The fancy chair had two metals welded together and this is just one thicker piece of metal. The original chair I sold my friend is still going strong. I couldn't find one like it to buy for myself though. :(

I got this newest one on sale for $35 with free delivery(staples rewards member), it's $60 now though... It's ultra CHEAP and crappy. I've got a $5 Big Lots soft flannel throw over it and it's decent now.

I dont know of any good $40 chairs but officemax and depot usually have some.
*edit* you may want put this in the other deals and requests section, becuase this one is not shopping related.

well, I've already picked one up at Target for about $50. It's similar to that one on the Kmart website. It's selling for $70 onine,however. I'm hoping it lasts longer than a semester.

That being said, I supposed we can convert this thread to a general bitching thread about how expensive desk chairs are...and how shitty the quality is for that money.

Okay why not :D, I agree if you buy anything under $40 bucks it's going to break or be extremely uncomfortable. You have to get one with armrests that is oversized just to be comfortable which means $70
