I noticed a difference between an image in the New York Times and my city's paper, the Akron Beacon Journal, both in today's edition:
NYT:
ABJ:
It may not seem like a big deal, but from what I understand (and was taught in my Journalism classes), newspapers are to edit pictures under vital circumstances only, such as cropping. It's beyond me what the purpose of this edit is, but it makes me wonder how often my paper photoshops pictures, and to what degree. Thoughts on this? If any journalists out there could offer insight, that would be helpful.
