Did you buy a warranty for your PS3?

I've never had an issue with any of the many launch systems that I have bought. Thankfully, most of them are Nintendo products. Enough said. With the 360 however, the chaos surrounding the months after its launch scared me into getting the Microsoft 2 year jobbie. I feel like a schmuck paying for it, but the 360 just reeks of system failure imho. Anyhow, so what are we doing with the PS3? There doesn't seem to be any apparent issues, and though I've heard horror stories about the launch PS2s and subsequent PS2s...my 2 PS2s are still ticking and as strong as ever. Just was wondering if you all have bought a warranty for this black sucker.

As much as it sucks, I got the Gamestop warranty just to be safe. So far though my PS3 is working flawlessly and hasn't given me a single problem.

I bought one just incase, but like whoknows mine has been working flawlessly and I use it almost daily to play games and/or blu ray movies.

I just bought mine at EB tonight and didn't get the warranty. All 3 EB workers wouldn't shut up about it though. One told me that he's heard of systems "blowing up". Another told me that Sony has come out and admitted that half of the launch PS3s "don't work" and have "lots of bugs". I haven't taken the system out of the box yet, maybe I should keep it in there in case it explodes.

I never had any serious problems with my PS2, Gamecube, or Xbox. But I still bought an extended warranty for each of my new systems. I bought an additional two years on top of the one year that comes with the PS3.

Just because my things haven't broken doesn't mean that I can ignore the people who have had broken 360s and whatnot.

I'd probably get one just on principle. I've heard too many horror stories of both consoles although admittedly mostly 360. When I get a 360 I'll be getting it at Costco so when not if it craps out I can get a new one easily.

supposedly i have a friend that works at eb and he says when he rings up the ps3 the computer doesnt prompt him to offer warranty so he doesnt...

I still haven't really heard of any widespread PS3 problems like the 360 had which frankly amazes me. Its freaking me out that there are more reported Wii problems then PS3 problems.

You have to remember that close to 1 million Wiis have sold while Sony only shipped twenty PS3s in the entire world. ;)

I bought the extended warranty from Bestbuy but I am starting to question it, wonder if my CC company offers a better one, or my insurance company, does State Farm offer personal insurance on items like this?

Or maybe it's because the PS3 is pretty well built system?

You realize you're talking about consumer electronics here right?
allright so i could buy a ps3 20gb from my boi whenever at cost but obviously theres no warranty...

can i get the sony warranty
I think only way to get Sony warranty is from Sony's online store or Sony Style shops. Target and Bestbuy would be two best warranty places though. Target is cheaper, and 3 years. Target's policy is if can;t be fixed then they give a new one. So chance of them knowing how to mess with a ps3 = new ps3. And its 3 years. BUT bestbuy always replaces no questions asked. But the warranty on on a 20gb is 79.99 vs targets 29.99 on a 20gb. Bestbuy also does warranty on your money so if price drop you get your money back.

I choose not to get one...I mean if it breaks, I'll get it fixed by sony. if it can last a year then i don't you need to worry.
