Different Guitar Hero 2 Boxes?

I borrowed a friends GH2 this past weekend. He just bought it last week. His game and guitar came in a box that was white and then slipped into a sleeve that said Guitar Hero 2 and had all the box art on it.

I fell in love with the game so I went out and bought it today. My box is completley different. The box art is printed on the box, no sleeve.

Which version is older and which is better? I'm hoping to avoid a bum guitar.
