Yes. XP's Luna interface looks pretty, but it decreases performance slightly. I've heard of certain benchmarks increasing by as much as 10% after turning it off.

Interesting. Some people still will tweak their systems in the name of 25 more megabytes of RAM, but it's a good point that with every tweak you risk incompatibilities and that it may not be worth the negligible cleanliness.
