CAGiversary!

I had an auction end for a new, still sealed PS3 game.
Got an e-mail from the buyer saying:

"I have just unwrapped this game to find it has been significantly scratched on the playing surface. If I could exchange this for another copy or a refund, I am more than willing to ship this copy back to you."

Keep in mind, this was a unopened game. How would it be scratched? It's a PS3 game, which are next to impossible to scratch, AND the game wasn't loose inside the box. To the best of my knowledge, anything I bought for myself that was loose inside the case, had no scratches. So, what gives. What do I do?

i bet they're trying to scam you, probably had the game and ruined the disc not taking care of it, got an ideal to screw someone over for a new disc. ive gotten used ps3 games from gamefly, gamestop, blockbuster goozex and CAG, none of them have ever had the slightest scratch on them. you're probably out of luck though cause ebay only cares about the buyers and will probably side with them.

That's what I'm thinking, and it's very sad. I only sell some games when I'm either bored and want something new or to help offset my income, to help with the costs of raising my daughter.

Which is why I'm more and more inclined to just trade/sell on here. Only had 1 problem on CAG really, and I was the buyer in that case. Rest have been smooth transactions.

I guess I bite the bullet and refund or buy another one and mail that to avoid a negative. I assume from all the posts I read on here, that ebay sides with the buyer. Boo!

exactly.

Email them and ask for the buyer to send a quick picture of the scratches, etc.

Heres the deal however.. if it goes to the stage of them filing a dispute you are in a big uphill battle.

Throw this in their lap and request they return the complete set of items to you and then you can look at offering a refund or excahnge..

This puts the burden of them getting the game back to you on them, they may not follow through with that.

Let them know you need them to pay shipping and that they need to insure and track it to protect themselves in case it doesnt arrive.

Also inquire as to how they imagine it got scratched as it was new and factory sealed.

I have another batch of games I'm ready to sell but I'm thinking I might just go to GS and get ripped off there. I've been lucky on eBay but I think my time is running out. I have 100% feedback but the last time I sold a bunch of stuff one person left me a negative because they told me they didn't want the game AFTER the auction ended, AFTER I shipped it and AFTER they received it! Luckily the guy was stupid enough to write all this stuff through eBay so eBay actually sided with me and erased the negative. Still, with the stories I've been hearing it sounds like eBay's time is almost up for the smaller sellers...

I moved a lot to amazon.. their fees are higher, but the price is also higher.. you price it right, and give a good description normally it will move in a few days time and no hassle.

However the time is ending thats for sure.

In a most interesting turn of events,

"Agreed., the bluray's are extremely scratch resistant. The disc itself had broken loose of it's snap fixture inside during shipping and had gotton some surface marks from the inside plastic. I was able to carefully wipe them away."

I have no idea what really happened here. He might be anal about condition of his discs (which I am to some degree). Just puzzled about this.

well great news for you.

Maybe he thought it was scratched all up and then emailed you... only to then take a closer look and find out its not a big deal..

Or he thought he could possibly do an easy return without any resistance.

Just keep an eye out on your account in the next week for an open dispute.

A lot of these buyers, if they really wanted to scam, will try this.

Pretend it's resolved, then when you're not paying attention, opens a claim on you anyways.

Wonderful.
Shame that people will stoop so low.

I wouldn't buy this story at all. I've seen CD jewel cases where the inner teeth break off and produce little pearly skitters, but never in a DVD-style case. I've seen a lot of loose discs too and I can't remember the last one that got scratched up--even if it did, how did he wipe those scratches away?

Both buyers and sellers are assholes at times. I wouldn't trust any of them.

I bought Marvel vs Capcom 2 for PS2 "new" on Amazon from some seller and it arrived w/ no shrink wrap and the security seal barely in tact. The seller told me to just send it back and I'll get a refund. I did that and then the bastard tried saying I tampered w/ the security seal and that I broke the case, so the seller tried only giving me a 75% refund. Absolutely ridiculous. I had to file an A-Z claim on that one.

I don't agree at all. There was a period when Microsoft was shipping a lot of new games with loose discs; especially anything that had multiple discs. I got 3 or 4 like this in the mail and in every case the discs were scratched to hell. If you were buying at a retail store maybe that's why your discs weren't scratched, but loose discs + USPS = scratches.

Also PS3 scratches do kind of wipe away; they are really still there but become a lot less visible and since they are only in the coating they usually don't affect the game playing.

I'm sorry man. I just got screwed recently on a game I sold and of course Ebay sided with the buyer. Now I have no game or no money! Grr

Something similar happened to me on eBay. A seller listed a brand new black label copy of a game so I bought it. What I received was an opened budget line edition. I sent it back and the asshole tried to only partially refund me so I opened a claim and eBay gave me the rest of my money back in my favor.

I've purchased DVD box sets that were marked as like new, and then they ended up being dented. At least the DVD's played alright, and it was a good deal, but yeah Ebay is sort of a last resort nowadays.

This reminds me of how I sold a copy of Black Ops for 360 on Amazon back in like December. The guy waited about two weeks after he had received it and complained that it had a big scratch and wouldn't play. Keep in mind, I play test everything I sell. But he was like "I won't return it, I want a new copy or a refund." and was threatening to leave negative feedback. In the end I told him I was going to play by Amazon's rules and if he wanted a refund, he would have to return it.

He never responded xD
