It seems people around here are letting their impatience get the best of them. These users Have Not Read The Trading Guidelines Thread. Instead, they've resorted to creating useless slander threads just so everyone can find out how much of a tool the OP really is.

People, READ SS4BROLLY'S TRADING GUIDELINES BEFORE YOU ENGAGE IN A TRADE AND BEFORE YOU POST A FLAME BAIT THREAD ABOUT BEING SCAMMED.

Make sure you have all of your facts BEFORE you share your experience.

I'm considering adding a feedback penalty for those of you who falsely accuse other members of this community. I'd rather not resort to such tactics but this issue is getting WAY out of hand and needs to stop.

NOTE: THE ONLY EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE ARE THREADS MEANT TO INFORM THE COMMUNITY OF POTENTIAL SCAMMERS FROM OTHER TRADE SITES.

I am pretty sure daphatty will not mind me editing his post (there are too many sticky's as it is right now) to include reference to another problem that has been reeking havoc on the trading section of these boards.

I am getting tired of all the flame bait posts, seeing how pissed off you can make the OP of a trade topic. If you do not want to trade with them, then do not bother responding to their thread, it is that simple. Only post when you want to make an offer or have a legitimate question about the stuff they are trading in their thread. If you know for a fact they are a scammer, please post proof that this is the case or PM a mod.

Just wanted to let everyone know that *flaming the new trader* is going to stop as it is petty and unjust. We were all newbies here and one point and making the first deal on this site is hard enough without someone flaming you about what you have for trade.

Daphatty's right. Do your research before getting into a trade. Check and see if the trader has any feedback on the site. If a problem arises, don't freak out. Try to contact the other person every way you can. If they refuse to contact you, PM a mod and they'll help you out. I've done it before, and everything went smoothly after I did. The absolute last thing you should do is make a "User ripped me off! Do not trade with them!" thread. We appreciate that you are trying to prevent anything else from happening, but it turns ugly very fast.

This is what can happen if you jump the gun. I'll admit this particular one is kinda funny now, but it wasn't back then. Mods are more than willing to help you work out a sour trade. This should always be your last resort.
I think my thread was justified and am hoping this thread wasn't for me.
No. Your situation was clearly justified. I'm refering to the other threads.

Thanks daphatty for posting this. It's not easy to gain a reputation on any board, but you can loose it in one second just because someone can't read PMs or can't add shipping days or someone found a better deal and use slander threads to get out of it.

Thanks for posting this, but resistance is futile. You should know by now that nobody reads the rules, guidelines, faqs, stickies, or anything that could possibly give them the information they need before they click "New Topic."

But with this thread up others can kindly redirect ticked off people here before they dig up every old post of the other party and clog up the main page.

Oh, I am fully aware that this won't help against the idiots that can't RTFM, but it needed to be written in stone anyway. That way people can't bitch when a Mod puts the smackdown on them.

EXACTLY!

I'm all for instituting penalties for people start these threads without reason.

Legitimate, well documented complaints like zewone's and the cloudspekk thread would obviously be granted amnesty.

I've done 12 trades/sales (with two additional ones pending) since early July and they've all gone without issue.

Know why? One of the regs pointed me to the trading guide and it answered all my questions. Told me all the important things to watch out for.

And if it seems like just an issue between you and the other party, maybe you should get someone else involved, such as a mod, since if you post on here, you open up the whole thing to the whole site. At that point, it's fair game for anyone, and there might be a few who are a little more direct about their comments than others, as well as making some judgements about the IQ of the parties concerned?

One thing I've done is keep a list of the people I've traded with and their relavent info such as CAG member name, real name, and address. And keep that list somewhere other than here, just in case someone decides to look into my account, like that whole "James" scenario I saw in another thread.

If I was in a trade and didn't hear anything after a couple of days, I don't get bent out of shape. A week, then that gets a PM of inquiry. Certainly not a thread that assumes I'm about to get fsck'd over a trade.

Trust me...if you're being accused of something here, it's got nothing to do with your being a Family Guy fan.

Random thought here...wouldn't it be nice if we could force new users to read all of the stickies before posting? I don't know how that could be done, but it's an idea...

A lot of the the guidelines to trading are common sense. Most of the people that post scammer threads are idiotic chickens running around with their heads cut off...

You mean like a user agreement? Maybe in order to have access to the trading forum they have to agree to read the stickies? But there would prob be no way to actually make sure they are read in its entirety...

Like someone mentioned, the more experienced traders should direct the newer ones to the appropriate posts.
is there anyway to remove a few of these stickys we have way to many of them. I think the polls can be erased now.
The trading format is in the process of an overhaul. Once that is done, we will do some spring cleaning. You'll just have to use that handy scroll button on your mouse until then.

There's another side to this, though. People who get screwed (like I believe I'm in the process of being, but am still waiting patiently for a solution to) want a way to alert the rest of the community. If you discourage informed users from posting warnings about their experiences, others may be ripped off.

I agree that people should be patient with trades, and follow all protocol. However, once all the guidelines have been followed, I think it's the responsibility of those who were scammed to alert the community about it.

Why not, instead of using blanket statements, put together some specifics? For example, you should wait X amount of weeks before deciding to post something negative. Like I said, I'm in the middle of a raw deal right now, and your post's point is to make me reconsider exposing the guy.

I got PMs for days from this dude, and I've waited over a month for my game. I paid with a money order that was received, then got a PM saying the game was in the mail. Still no game. He says it's in the mail, which he's been saying for a while now. What do you suggest I do in this case? Is this not enough of a case to post something? If you're going to tell people when NOT to do something, please advise us on when TO do something.

you should have stated in the beginning that you insist on delivery confirmation, it costs 55 cents and is well worth it as it provides tracking information. In lieu of that, ask him for the receipt at the post office from where he mailed it out. usps may be able to find the package if he kept the receipt.

If he didnt keep the receipt, well then you have a legitimate gripe, if all else fails, you can file mail fraud with the FBI and the PO. But if neither of you used delivery confirmation, that doesnt give them much to go on.

anytime you are sending something of value out, like a game system or expensive games, it is always a good idea to get insurance for the package.

Also,if they start another trade post or something, you may want to post a warning in there (after waiting a little while for your game like you did) and state that everything about him recieving the money and you waiting for a month for the game and still no game. Just that some people maybe wait a week or so for their game and if it doesn't show up quick enough for them, they make a post about it. What the others are trying to point out is that so many people keep making these post about being screwed over in a trade when really it could have just taken a little bit longer than expected.
