Do you finish all your games?

I'm curious to hear how many of you actually finish all the games you purchase. (Well perhaps excluding the few that you may buy just because the game is cheap and you know you will only get a few hours out of it) It's probably as we all get older, other responsibilities come apparent so we have less and less time for gaming. I also think that since there are several great systems on the market right now and new ones arriving that are getting some great software it's hard to keep up and play all the games you want. Right now I have a library of about 25+ games that I have not even opened and I'm starting to worry because I'm really looking forward to picking up a 360 and a Wii this xmas. I'm worried that the lure of new hardware is going to pull me away from many of the game I already have and I will not be able to enjoy them fully and give them the proper time and dedication they deserve. Does anyone feel the same way?

Have I finished all of my games? Hell no. Do I care? Not really, because I'd rather have plenty of fun games to play instead of getting bent out of shape over beating them.

Well I don't have a massive collection of games so when I do get a new game, I play it until I beat it. If I really like the game then I'll keep it if not then I'll trade it in for something else that I want.

I can't even remember the last game I've finished. I have over 300 games and it doesn't really bother me that I don't finish them.

I was just thinking about this the other day.

It always bothered me having games on my xbox I never beat, but I want to turn that around with my 360.

I have 14 games, and so far the only 2 I havnt finished yet are Condemned and Tomb Raider. Well technically Table Tennis too, but I will consider that beat after I unlock all the characters.

I know eventually 360 games will be very cheap, and I will pick up 3-4 at a time and not be able to finish and get sidetracked, but I really want to avoid that.

I finish every game I start. The backlog is huge right now (and growing) but everything will be finished eventually. If that means I'm playing PS2 games well into retirement, so be it. I just hope my thumbs still work when I'm older. :)

I haven't finished all my games... I intend to do so, but I'm not going to try and push it. I'd rather just enjoy the games than force myself to finish them as quickly as possible.

the only games i consistently beat are the tony hawk games, other than those i have tons i havent finished but like friskytanuski said, "I'd rather have plenty of fun games to play instead of getting bent out of shape over beating them." i couldnt agree more.

I TRY to beat all my games. I should have been easy considering how few I actually have but I tend to lose interest after so long. I have had DQ8 since christmas and I just finally got past the jessica battle. x-x

I try to finish games in the order of how much I paid for them. If I paid full price for a game, then chances are I wanted to play it really, really badly. But if I paid $10 for a game, then it's just one of those 'when I get to it' games.

agree with rabbitt: depends if I like the game enough to finish it. For instance, I gladly invested all the necissary hours and beat Burnout 3/ Burnout Revenge, but gave up on Far Cry Instincts 3/4 of the way through, because the level design was getting on my nerves.

No, I own too many games to finish them all. Also, I like to unlock / get everything, which takes longer. That means I have even less time to finish my games.

The thing that I started and is really annoyin is startin a game, gettin some good hours on it, then puttin it away for a new game. I have like 5 games that I played, but haven't finished yet. I promised myself to not do that, so now I'm gonna try and go back and finish them all before movin onto new games. My collection isn't too big, but it's gettin to the point where I probably won't even touch some games I just got for like another year. I bought MGS3 like, the Christmas it came out, and I STILL haven't touched it.

Not even close, but I mean i've paid so little for the majority of them that I just don't care. The main thing is just time, I don't have nearly enough of it to really start digging into games like I used to, what little I have goes to trying to relax or sleep. Funny enough the only games i'm beating these days are either fighting games or shallow ones that only last about 6-8 hours, I used to hate those types when I was younger , now they are perfect.
No. When I get new stuff, I get sidetracked.
Agreed. Lately I've been focusing on Oblivion and think I WILL manage to tap it out.

I wish I finished more of my games. I just have so little time. In college and high school, I would dive into lengthy JRPGs and CRPGs but these days, just 3 years out of school, I'm lucky to finish anything. It's horrible. When you work all day you don't really feel like wasting all of your free time in front of the tube. When I play games I have immense fun, but time goes by incredibly fast. Oblivion sucked away a month of my life before I started to cut down on play times. My social life took a serious hit. It is seldom that a game can captivate me like that, but when it does I tend to get upset.

I'm a life-long gamer that is being forced to trim his hobby down to casual playing. It's sad and I mourn, but life beckons. :(

I would have to go with a no on that one because I try to play as many games as I can and don't want to waste too much time on just one game.

Hahahahahahahahahaha....no, no I dont. I start a game, play it for a few hours then never look back unless its a game I'm really really enjoying. I just lose interest too fast.

Dear God NO!

I have well over 1250 games (and now my collection is split between the US and Japan too! hahaha!), and I've probably only beaten a 1/4 of them , if that.

BUT since I came to Japan last year, I've gotten a lot better at actually finishing games before I buy more and I've plowed through about 50 games in the last year.

That's exactly what I do. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem. The other problem I have now is my XBOX just died on me again. I had to send it in for rapair. Hopefully I'll get it back soon.....

I have a feeling the more appropriate question on CAG in particular should be: do you play all the games you purchase? I think everyone here has a backlog at this point.

I only play a game when I'm in the mood for it. If two games fit that bill, I'll go with the one I've already started unless it no longer interests me.

I have no problem backshelving a game that I don't want to play any longer, especially if it goes past that point of challenging to downright frustrating and belittling (/me looks at Amplitude on the hardest setting)

Yeah, if I own a game, I'll beat it. No one on this earth will ever 100% complete their games, but maybe beat them. If I notice I'm not touching a game for a while, then I usually get rid of it since I know i'll never finish it.

oh, and it's really hard to beat open-ended games, incase you didn't know.

I enjoy playing short games. Most people complain that a game may be to short, but then I know that I can finish it. If companies just make games that are shorter, and of course cheaper, then maybe I can finish some.

I do have a backlog....but I learned from my mistakes. Although its hard to pass up cheap games or games you were slightly interested in you really have to try. That's what I'm doing now. If a game gets stealler reviews though then its worth a look especially at a bargain price. I'm also sticking to one game at a time and I'm finding it a lot easier to finish games this way. The only problem is every time I finish 1 game 3 come out I want to buy.

Not yet, considering I have over 1,000 games and growing, dating from the Atari 2600 to the PC to the 360. Will I? Absolutely! All part of my retirement plan...in 40 years.

yeah if i buy a game i beat them eventually. but i do it when ti do it. some games you cant wait to beat like a gta game ratchet and clank or pop game or spider man youre excited to paly them so you bust your ass to beat them . of course theres a few games i have i havent beat namely mgs 3 snake eater and manhunt. ive had those 2 games for a while and havent beat them. mgs is hard for me because of the crappy camera angels its way too damn furstrating to have to fight with the view all the time and in effect get spotted way too often and eventually killed. i hear the remix of that game has better camera angles so ill try ti out when i can get a copy of it.

as far as manhunt goes i just couldnt get into it i did for a while but the slow gameply gets to me. all that waiting and how easy ti is to make mistakes on yoru stealth kills its frustrating but once ive betan all my other games ill go back and try it again. i guess in the end the games i really want to play i play and beat right out things im not too wowed with i beat over time.

I try to beat all my games but as you can see with the stats in my sig... im not so good at it. I told myself i wouldn't buy a next gen system until ive atleast completed or played all my games from this generation.

I used to beat more games, but every since I started playing WoW, ive begun to have trouble finishing the ones I start. Usually if its a reallly good game or one I bought at full price, like CoD2 or Kingdom Hearts 2 it gets beaten, but those $10 circuit city games I get the feeling will be sitting there for a while.

What I'm trying to do now is finish a game before I open a new one up. I'm trying to finish Jade Empire before I start MGS3, and then finishing that before I start Fable or Devil May Cry 3.

I never finish games unless they are really really good (ie RE4). I just get annoyed with them or feel they are to repetitive and give up. I really don't care that i don't finish them.

On a side note. I hope heaven is me sitting around playing video games and watching baseball. How great would that be?

Thats sort of a loaded question- the direct answer is- NO- there is so much to do in some games.

I have a huge backlog, but after reading this post I'm begining to realize that I have some games in my library that I may never play at all (or again). To some people this would mean "SELL SELL SELL" but to me, it's just a nice little reminder that not all games that are bought work out.

However, with that being said, sometimes I'll buy a game like that, pick it up a year or two later and have a complete blast and be very glad that I did pick it up. So, it's a law of averages- pick up a bunch of games at 10-20 bucks each, some with be meh, but some will be a blast.
Sometimes I just get bored of a game and have no motivation to finish it.
Final Fantast X-2. Started back in...March 2004? I want to get around to finishing it one day, but it sucks when compared to its predecessor.

I've got loads of games. I played games to death when I was a young teen, like 12 or 13. I must've played through Final Fantasy 2 about 5 or 6 times and I was mystified by its greatness (shows how good a game it was/is).

Now, I can't even complete something relatively short, like Viewtiful Joe. These days, I'm just supporting capitalism.

The last game I beat was Metal Gear Solid for PSX. It's hard to finish a game I started because time, family, and new releases.

If I start a game, I beat it, though I no longer care so much about 100 percenting games. I also often stop in the middle and start something else, but I almost always go back and finish it.

is not finishing games more of a younger gamer trait? ive read through this and a number of you say finishing games isnt important to you but for me ive always been driven to beat the game and like monkay said i dont care too much now for 100 percent unless it nets you something cool ( i blame donkey kong 64 for killing off my desire for 100 percent damn all those colored bananas) but back in the n64 era it mattered now i dont care but i still feel the need to finish games. hell i still have a game save from star wars bounty hunter i havent deleted from when the game first came out and i rented it still hoping to complete the game. same for bloodrayne.

Like some others I can't even remember the last game I beat.

Well, I guess it was MGS2....

A big problem I have is I like RPGs, and I'll start one and get some good hours on it, but then have to stop playing for a while or get sidetracked or stuck, and by the time I get back to the game I'm like, "Ok, WHAT was happening?? Maybe I'll just start over..."

It's even worse with PC games, because after you get bored or actually finish there's always tons of mods and other things to try out!

Right now I've started up another game of Baldur's Gate II Shadows of Amn, one of the best PC RPGs of all time IMO, which came out what, 10 years ago? Never finished it. This time I'm going to try though.

Same with Morrowind, Oblivion, the Fallouts, Dragon Quests, Final Fantasies, you name it!!

Then there's MMOs, which can never be beat......sigh......
