1) Well first of all you have to know what it is you're offering. Any chump can start a forum, but it takes some real know-how to get the community to grow and flourish.

2) You have to be sure you have the time to invest in it. A large portion of your time is gonna be spent building the forum, keeping it active, and actively participating. If you don't have any of those things, then you're not gonna get very far.

3 Set it apart from other forums somehow. This relates back to my first post. Video game forums are a dime a dozen, but if you can offer something unique with your, that'll give people added incentive to wanna come back and past.

4) Advertise advertise advertise. There's no point in even having a forum if no one knows you exist. You're on the right track with what you're doing now, but later it would be a good idea to have sites to affiliate with so you can provide them with a link to your site.

There's a lot more to it than that, but those are the biggies you'll have to keep in mind.

You may wan't to revise your reviews if you really want to be considered as a wise gamer. Just a suggestion.

SO NOBODY WAS EXPECTING ME TO GIVE LOTR CONQUEST A 7.8 HOWEVER I LIKED THE
GAME IT REMINDED ME OF STAR WARS BATTLE FRONT WITCH I LIKE THAT GAME.
THE ACTION SEEMS VERY FAST PACED AND INTENSE. I REALLY LIKE MAGIC IN
GAME'S ESPECIALLY SINCE I PLAYED OBLIVION WITCH THAT IS A GAME THAT I
ENJOYED VERY MUCH. 7.8 IS THE SCORE I AM GIVING LOTR CONQUEST THIS GAME
IS A $20 GAME IN MY OPINION.

Age a couple years, take some fucking college level English courses, learn how to actually write content, or somehow create content people give a flying fuck about, then try to run a website or forum. Right now your forum makes me want to head to the mall and start shoving kids into escalators.

Decide on your target audience also. Right now, it looks like the 8-12 area that love capslock and a terribad theme of awfulness.

Oh, spellcheck, motherfucker, can you use it?

By the way, if anyone decides to knock me for my site, it's mainly just there to take up space on a server in some random hellhole, and for me to occasionally post random crap to people I know in real life. I don't care about the rest of you, so I know my target audience.

Edit - also, you have way too many discussion boards for the amount of users you have (Read - Yourself.) It makes it look even more empty, and users get turned off by places that look empty. Why the hell do I want to use yet another empty forum ran by a random chump? I can google up all the free, empty, invisionboards I want.

I would have gone into more detail, but I fear it would be wasted.

If you're just looking for a power trip, find the nearest playground and just start knocking kids over. Be sure to laugh maniacally.

In order for you to be a moderator you have to be old, and bitter.
Or an idiot who doesn't know how to handle money.
Or a hypocrite.

Can you handle DAT??????????????

i kid i kid :grouphug:

Is this for real?

You forum has no real draw for me to join, the community isn't there and your reviews are horrible. First of all, I refuse to read a paragraph IN ALL CAPS. ITS REALLY ANNOYING AND MOST PEOPLE CAN'T HANDLE IT FOR MORE THAN A SENTENCE.
I Realize theirs no community that is why i am asking for tips on HOW TO BUILD ONE!!!!!!!!
The fact that your website is called "wisegamer" is literally making my brain hurt.

Other's were harsh, but true. Don't start a forum if you just want mod power. And don't bother trying to build a community if you can write or produce worthwhile content. Until you produce that there is no way to build a community. Game sites are a dime a dozen, you need to have high quality content or offer something different--and good luck thinking of something that's not already out there.

First off you cannot start a forum or any website and expect people to be going to it the next day. You have a huge plain banner in your sig, but advertising an empty gaming forum on a popular/ well populated gaming forum isn't going to get you any traffic.

If you're expecting people to search google and stumble upon your forum, forget about that too. I am going to go out on a limb and guess you haven't even submitted your website to any search engines. And if that is the case, which i know it is, you're not even listed in the searches on google, yahoo, or any others.

Even when you get your website submitted, it will be on page 5920499842093 because your website does not and will not even have a Page Rank (google this cause i'm sure you have no clue what page rank is). To get a higher page rank you'll need websites linking back to yours, you'll need to SEO your website (google SEO too).

Once people somehow, by some misfortunate accident, wind up on your forum they will instantly leave because for 1 it looks plain and boring, and 2 it has no content or members. People aren't just going to show up and start posting popular topics, and having huge discussions when theres no other members.

So what should you do about having no members or content? Fake it. Nobody's gonna come to a forum with no members or content, so until you get shit workin you basically need to start about 25-50 different user names and start having some either funny or interesting ass conversations with yourself. And stop reviewing games now. Any review you've posted go delete it because they're horrible and nobody's gonna want to read that.

Another way to get traffic to your website is by paid posting. Pay people to sign up and post on your forum. This will get you more members and more content. Let people on different forums know you're paying people to post on your forum

Give shit away, have contests etc. If you're giving away games or live cards etc for people who sign up and maybe post something, people will come. If you start a contest or a give-away make a post on a bunch of gaming forums letting people know you're giving stuff away. Submit it to digg, and all the other websites like it.

Once you're forum has actual content on it, and it's enough interesting content that people might want to stay for longer than a few minutes to check it out, then you want to advertise hard on forums. Sign up for adwords and other advertising companies and place ads for your forum.

If you do all of that, your forum MAY work. And now that you're done reading all of this i'm sure you'll quickly go delete your forum.

If you want power, become a cop.

For little pay, you get to push people around, frame minorities for a plethora of criminal offenses, receive sexual and financial favors and use/resell all the drugs you can carry after convicting minorities of possession and distribution.

I was dead fucking serious with my entire post. I want to go on record stating that right now. Those are tips. Currently, you are digging yourself deeper into the hole.

Sounds PERFECT for me. Well, aside from the old part. I am a bitter hypocrite though. I also have a general distaste for people.
