Does anybody still buy original pokemon cards?

I have a binder full that I forgot I even had in the basement. Most are at least ten years old. I know they have fallen off in popularity since I was a tike but back in the day this was a sold collection.

Considering breaking up on ebay but from looking around only the really good ones would sell. Anybody still in to these or know a better way to sell?

Random pics of the first few pages (good stuff).

I've got boxes of these lying around. Put all my rare ones in a binder. I always thought that a few of them (Original Japenese Mew, Pokemon League Promo Cards, Lugia, Mewtwo, etc.) were going to be worth $100+, but as of now I'm lucky if I can sell them for $10 each.

You might get a few bucks a card if you part them out and sell them 1 card at a time, but as a lot you won't get much. Old cards are useless outside of collection sake. I run a league, nobody is ever after old cards. I dumped all of my old stuff earlier this year just to get the space back.

I would love that Charizard card. I've always wanted one simply because he was my first Pokemon (well, Charmander was... but you know what I mean).
It's so funny that you posted this. I just read this article yesterday.

http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/unplugged/10-priciest-collectible-cards-232119394.html

Is your Charizard the same one listed in the article? If so, looks like you've got a fortune
No, that's a first edition Charizard in the article. His is a non-first edition. For some reason, it seemed like first edition Charizards were significantly rarer than any other 1st editions. I saw or knew who had 1st edition Blastoises and Venasaur and many others, but not once have I seen a 1st edition Charizard.

Everybody wanted Charizard. Even though he was shit to use. I probably wasted thousands on Pokemon and Magic cards. And the other various TCG/Tabletop games I played back in the day.

Charizard was the boss back when this game was new. I'm sure there's tons of stuff now that's way better by comparison, but what existed in the first couple sets that Charizard couldn't dominate (besides the obvious higher evolution water types)? Even with the high energy cost of his attack, and that discard 2 thing, he still does 100 damage.

Ugh, I used to have one of those Charizard cards... Can't remember if it was 1st ed. or not, I'm just going to pretend that I know it wasn't just to make myself feel better. #-o

Check your copies of Charizard. If you have a 1st Edition Shadowless in one of those single sleeves, you need to eBay the living fuck out of it; it's one of the few cards that can be worth hundreds of dollars. 1st Edition non-Shadowless Charizards could be worth something, but not hundreds of dollars.

I had a 1st Edition Charizard. I loved it. A kid who played me in a game had a fit so badly when he lost that he tore my card in two. Stupidly, I accepted a non-1st Edition Charizard when his mom paid for it.

I have so many bulk pokemon cards sitting in a storage box right now.. like a ton of wasted money amount haha. I also have the First three sets complete (basic, fossil, jungle), some extra collector sets (pikachu world collection, and a few neo sets), and all of the BK gold cards (unopened and in box).

One thing I always see is "Shadowless" set for the basic. I never really heard this term until recently, from what I saw online: "Shadowless cards are an ERROR of the 1st Edition Base Set cards".. But how exactly to tell if they are shadowless?

Online I see:

Perhaps the most obvious way to tell is if your card is shadowless is if  the bottom of the card says "1995, 96, 98, 99 Nintendo Creatures...." If the card has the year "99" at the bottom, then it is shadowless. Unlimited Cards say only "1995, 96, 98".

So does that mean if the card says "1995, 96, 98, 99 Nintendo Creatures...." then the card is shadowless? If it is a coloring thing I am going to have issues (colorblind).

I would say so. I could not tell the difference except in the text print difference. I think there were some licensing errors when the cards got printed, so they had to rescind the 99.

Shadowless have a very thin border and thinner HP text. It's only the base set, so ignore and Jungle/Fossil/etc. stuff

Okay, so I am looking at my cards now. I noticed three versions of my charmander off the bat..

So (left to right) is a Shadowless 1st edition, Shadowless, and then normal? Or is it just simply a first edition, a shadowless, and then normal? From what I read it sounded like only unlimited are "shadowless" but from what I see there is shadowless 1st edition. Sorry for all the questions

Aren't there enormous quanities of Chinese bootlegg/knockoff cards floating around out there, some better quality than others?

Shadowless 1st Edition, Shadowless, and then Normal. The year dates across the bottom are different between the left/mid and the right.

shit. why did i give my pokemon cards away. there goes my hundreds of dollars. I remember when I was a kid, I just wanted to "get as many shiny ones" lol. My cousin who was older at the time worked for the company that made them, he was a dick, never hooked it up. funny, no one in the family hangs out with him.

I have a few of my old favorites, but nowadays I have newer cards in my collection. If Nintendo had made these Full Art cards back then, people could have retired.

The only old school card I still have in my main collection is the classic Ancient Mew. It's a junk rare nowadays, but it's still one of my favorites.

just stumbled on this thread....man, you guys are making me want to go thru my own pile of cards... and here i was thinking of just giving it to my nephews n nieces..

You could try contacting a store that plays the game to see if they would be interested. The biggest store in MO is Yeti Gaming, just look up their contact info on Facebook.

I should look through some of my Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh cards. I have a near complete set of the Japanese "gym leader" series or whatever it's called. Is Beckett still making pricing guides? I remember before they were a fairly reliable source for prices, but they might obsolete now with eBay and whatnot.

Ended up digging out my rare cards binder, I got several copies of a lot of promos ( 1-29# ) we used to steal them at the toy r us leauge, a Bunch of badges, then I noticed my shining charizard, it's going for like 60$ easy on ebay! Plus so many more rares and 1st editions , oh the nostalgia!

Ps if anyone interested I can put pics up if u wanna buy

Well for sake of saying it if you still have an original set send me a PM. I cant afford a ton of money but I have been very much wanting to get the first 2 or 3 sets again. Back in the 90s I had a "friend" steal mine and I never replaced them and I want them again for nostalgia sake.

Tcgplayer.com to lookup the average price.

last year i got extremely lucky at a mom and pop craft shop. i bought 6 original booster packs. only opened one. the rest are sealed. not sure if i'm ever going to open them.

I will buy your old cards, the ones from the original few sets, I really want to have them since I lost all mine when my house burned down and I want to play the original pokemon card game with my daughter using the old pokemon. Email me a drakevaliance @ gmail . com

Disclaimer:  my kids are getting into the game

I wouldn't necessarily want to buy boosters from amazon unless it's a box or tin or something.  Apparently you can weigh packs, so someone can pick out the ones that they want from a booster box and sell the still-sealed packs.

It's obviously much harder to do this in a physical store.
