Does Game Crazy "Flag" you?

I was reading another Game Crazy discussion and a thought has been lingering in my mind. I don't even live near Game Crazy anymore, but their hijinks were SO insane they have left me with paranoid delusions even 6 months after I moved.

This question stems from multiple about-faces that GC pulled on my in the 1.5 years I lived in the area. Example: Store 1 says "get an additional $10 for every pair of non-sports games you trade in." Me - "Really? As many as I want?". GC employee - "Sure! Bring them all in!" I live closer to store 2, so I go to the other one with my games. Long story short, he rings me up and says something like "$6.50". I ask about the 2 for $10 xtra credit and he CALLS THE STORE THAT JUST TOLD ME I COULD TRADE AS MANY AS I WANT AND SPORTS ARE THE ONLY EXCEPTIONS to confirm that:

1) Only works once per day
2) Only works if at least one of the games is worth more than $10 to begin with.

We looked at the posted ad and he does the equivalent of reading "Hollywood Video is a great store" and then says "See, just like it says, one of the games has to be worth more than $10." Not word for word, but basically it was a totally illogical conversation to the point that there was no point in arguing. How do you argue with someone when you say "2+2 = 4" and they say "No, 2+2 = 57."?

This is just one of many such events. Having traveled quite a bit, I can verify that many smaller Game Store chains keep lists of people they dislike (and I know of one in particular that intentionally encourages employees to rip off people they don't like - adding up 30 games that should be a total of 250 trade, "accidentally" hitting the off key on the calculator, then they say "Ok, 195 in trade"). And Game Crazy is SO adament that you give them your precious little ID before they will price games for trade or sell anything to you. So for all you employees out there and all you insiders, I don't care what the answer is - just put my paranoia to rest:

DOES GAME CRAZY "FLAG" CUSTOMERS THEY DON'T LIKE AND INTENTIONALLY GIVE THEM THE RUNAROUND?

I've tried to ignore the thought for some time now, especially since it's so irrelevent at this point, but it won't go away. I have to know if a little flag came up on my name whenever they pulled me up (I admit, I did some flipping, and there's no way it escaped them completely. If that bothers you, at least you can get some satisfaction out of knowing I COMPLETELY missed the $5 deal for all those Earthbound/Secret of Mana/etc.'s out there) :)

Do they flag customers?

I wouldn't put it past them, but in the situation you listed, the fine print details WERE there. You could only do the deal once a day, and only on preowned games.. you got a $10 bonus on the stuff, the games didn't have to get at least $10.

The ONLY workaround to that deal where you could make any sort of profit whatsoever was to buy the cheapest preowned game they have then shove the rest of the "bonus" money into your account as store credit.

yes

and we have your house under permanent surveillance. Mention this again, and your car will be in 437 different pieces.

Maybe I don't understand the term "flipping". I simply mean that I had a bunch of games I had gotten for ~$3 each at other stores over a period of time and was trading them for credit at GC - not that I was buying GC games, then reselling them to GC for more profit.

Hope that clears my "flipping" comment up in case I implied more than I meant. Thanks Scorch, and can anybody else confirm "flagging"?

well, there is an option in the POS where employees can add "member notes" but at our store we use it for kids who have been banned for causing problems, and for people who have a history of theft or suspicious behavior (changing price stickers, bringing in junk/defective games, attempting to rip us off) or for things like warranties, this person wants this game, this person gets 20% off next time cause of this reason. Not for people who take advantage of deals.

You might just have run into a store with a very natzi'ish DM or store manager who doesn't like to give people any deals.

Maybe, but it was several stores that all had what seemed like constantly changing deals. I swear, it was like a moving target trying to meet all the requirements for the deals at the different stores.

You're just paranoid. Simple as that. There is no way to 'flag' an account, atleast on the Game Crazy side. They can add notes, but the space is VERY limited, and it only 1 line long. However, different stores have different 'rules'. Some managers are picky, some are not.

in general, don't go to gamecrazy looking to take advantage of deals and/or combine deals. The managers in general are much stricter about people taking advantage of the system and finding loopholes to get something for nothing. EB doesn't care if you bring in 5 hitman contracts to get a new release game, but GameCrazy does, because we don't want to have our stores filled with junk (any more than they already are) I think gamecrazy is there for excellent customer service, a "local store" feel rather than the corporate EB/GS BS, letting you try stuff before you buy it, and giving better trade in credit than anyone else. Not nessecarily the best cheap ass store, but I think we do a lot better job helping customers and being personable than EB/Gamestop do.
