Does the Backup Utility Work for PS2 Saves?

I haven't tried this, and hopefully I'll never have to, but I was hoping someone would know the answer.

When using the Backup Utility to create a backup on an external drive, will the PS2 saves be copied along with everything else? I'm trying to get in the habit of using the Backup Utility relatively regularly and I'm wondering if I should do something separate for my PS2 saved games.

I've backed up and restored my PS2 saves twice now and it's worked fine both times using the backup and restore... I'm not sure what would cause a problem with this other than maybe user error or the files being corrupted somehow.

Some people on the Playstation boards seem to have trouble with this, no idea why. Maybe the backup process isn't 100% reliable... If you can manually copy your PS2 internal memory cards to other storage that might be smart as a "Plan B".

if the same PS3, then yeah, any saves will work. If you're changing to a different PS3, then some saves (actually, a lot of them) don't work.

Is that for PS1, PS2, AND PS3 saves? Man, I thought one of the main reasons for the backup utility was if my PS3 was fried and I had to move onto another PS3... it would suck if it doesn't accomplish this.

Yeah, in my case, these were full system back ups. However, I was transferring to a different PS3, as my previous PS3 went back to Sony. When I got the new one, I restored with the back up content, but it didn't restore the PS1/PS2 saves or some locked PS3 content (Rockband saves). Luckily, I had the PS1/PS2 saves on memory cards as well (except for one game I had JUST beat ).

the truth.

So, if that's the case, does it mean that even backing up PS2 saves onto a USB drive won't be sufficient because they're locked to a particular console?

I believe its more of a matter of the game publishers wanting to prevent your content/trophies from being shared. So I would figure ps2 saves to be much more likely to transfer over to a new console.
