Does the EA NFL Monopoly apply to previously released games?

NFL 2K5 was the last NFL title released before the exclusive "agreement" was reached between EA and the NFL. My question is this. Does this agreement prevent companies from updating products (i.e. rosters, bug fixes) that were released prior to the agreement?

I haven't read the agreement myself but I would think that roster and rule updates to NFL 2K5 would be acceptable since technically, the game was developed and released under a previous agreement and the developer would simply be updating the product for accuracy's sake.

Comments?

If EA has the rights to all current NFL players, then do you think an older title would be able to use the rights to these same players?

Answer: No.

Roster updates would be out. That would have to be renegotiated with the current player's union. Or at the very least, new players could not be added.

So rosters were part of the agreement? I though the exclusivity was only for the NFL license and not the roster license (which we all know are two separate things). Does anyone have a link to the actual agreement itself? (Believe it or not, I am interested in reading it.)

EA locked up the NFL and the NFLPA license... If they didn't have the players association there would be a chance that roster updates could be issued...

Of course EA also locked up basically every football league in North America as well...

There was an interview with the head of Midway on IGN a while ago about upcoming Live Arcade titles.

One of the questions proposed was if we'd see NFL Blitz (arcade) on the marketplace. He said it was unlikely because 1) Midway's moved away from the NFL portion of Blitz and 2) EA would have to allow them to do it.

I assume the same rules would apply to Take Two. If EA allowed them to do a roster update, it could happen. But why would EA bother with it?

It's been almost 2 years. You 2K5 people need to just let it go. They aren't making new rosters, they aren't making a new game with Hall of Famers, and they aren't making a new game with generic teams.
i agree, anyways can't a fan just create a new roster file and distribute it.
