does the psp really need a screen protector?

I see a lot of posts on here about people getting screen protectors for their psp's. Is the screen ridiculously delicate or something?

The first few weeks I had my PSP, I kept it in a drawer when I wasn't using it because I was so paranoid about the screen getting scratched or even coated with dust. It's just a really nice screen. I ended up getting one of those Logitech hard shell cases (PlayGear Pocket, I think). It's excellent, even though it's probably not what you mean when you say "screen protector." I highly recommend it, although I don't know if the new PSP slims would rattle around a lot inside.

I don't have one for my PSP's... (I broke down and tried to put one on my new PSP slim and it scratched a little bit...) but as for my original PSP, it's been kept in the Logitech Playgear case and has 0 scratches on the screen.... and if I hadn't fudged up my Slim screen install, my slim would be scratch free too (also fits in a Playgear case..)

YMMV, but keep the dust off the screen (using a microfiber cloth or something similar) and don't toss it around in the backpack and I think you'll be fine...
Well, considering you spent between $170 and $200 on the PSP, wouldn't you want to protect the screen from scratches?
i agree that you gotta protect your investment... ($173 after the $40 off $199 worked at circuit city). it is a nice screen, and i'd hate to have scratches on it.

it's annoying to have fingerprints, dust, or anything on a screen - to save from scratches, you'd have to use a microfiber cloth or something. with my screen protector (hori, btw), i'm fine with just the end of my shirt (but i still try to use the cloth they provided.

personally, it's assuring to have it on there - so basic clumsy damage can be avoided. like they say, better safe than sorry.

I totally agree with the recommendations here. It's important to have a good case for storage and travel, but you don't really need a screen protector otherwise.

yes, si, mos def, absolutely, positively, absolutely.....oh, already said that. unless you are going to be SUPER careful and not let any snot nose kid play with it, no. but, yes. sorry, couldn't tell you what kind to get as I am super careful and don't let any snot nose kids play with it, and I have a logitech case.

It's a good insurance policy. I've had the same one on mine since I got it. If you install it right you won't even remember it is there. That is, until you scratch it with some keys then you will be glad it is there.

me, being the paranoid person that I am about screen scratches would say yes. it's a great investment to have a screen protector for it, especially when you don't have an adequate case for it.

I'd say yes, get a screen protector. I take really good care of my PSP, and it recieved an inch-long scratch across the middle. I don't know what scratched it, nor when it happened, but it's there. I didn't think I needed one, but if I had one, my PSP would still be scratch-free.

I've housed my PSP in a Logitech Playgear Pocket since I got it. Great case.

Yes, a screen protector is one of the first accessories a PSP owner should get, IMO.

Even if you are very careful with it, shit happens, and the screen is one of the most delicate/easily scratched surfaces on the PSP. A ton of people buy their NDS's screen protectors (top and touch screen) and the NDS closes shut.

Screen protectors are a must and I don't really understand the question. It costs very little to put one on and you can't even tell it's there, except for the fact your screen has no scratches on it.
