Does Vista "power down" optical mice?

CAGiversary!
I've got a laser mouse and recently noticed after a while it doesn't work. Used to be I could wake up my computer from monitor standby by giving the mouse a wiggle, now I have to press a button on the mouse and the laser kicks back on. It only happens after I walk away a while, as if the mouse is temporarily turned off by Vista.

Is this some new feature slipstreamed in on Patch Tuesday?

Not sure how it is under Vista, but look under Control Panel->Mouse->Hardware->Properties->Power Management and check what settings are toggled.

There are no power management functions in the mouse options. Regular power management just lets you set monitor standby and sleep mode. There are some advanced settings, but the only USB item noted in there is external HDD drives.

I'm wondering if maybe the mouse is dying (it is quite old). But the fact it works perfectly, just all of a sudden needs a button press to "wake up" has me confused.

Follow WSB's suggestion. But if that doesn't work go to Control Panel->Power Options->Change plan settings->Change advanced settings then go to "USB settings" and disable "USB selective suspend setting".

If that doesn't do the trick it might be time for a new mouse.

Edit: Well I didn't see your post... I left the page open for a while then replied.

Okay, seems you can set a mouse to wakeup the computer from standby. It's buried in the actual hardware properties. There's a checkbox to allow it to wakeup and another to allow the computer to turn it off to save power...but the box is grayed out in the inactive state (yet that's still exactly what's happening). Weird.

Anyways, I found it under Mouse > Hardware > Properties > Change Settings > Power Management
