"Fight the Power! Don't Fight the Power!"
"We Want Change! Don't Vote for Change!"

This has got to be the most inane campaign slogan ever. Thankfully, Univision is having none of this B.S.

"Univision will not be running any spots from Latinos for Reform related to voting," said a spokeswoman for the network, Monica Talan, in an email. "Univision prides itself on promoting civic engagement and our extensive national campaigns encourage Hispanics to vote.”

I know the guy is saying they shouldn't vote for Republicans either, but he has made thinly veiled comments that voting Democrat would be worse still. Why? He has ties to the republican party of course.

I still find it sad that repubs can't get the latino vote. I mean seriously, most latino culture lines up with conservative idea's, the only nagging thing getting in the way is the way the gop hates immigrants and their insistence on cutting some social programs.

'thinly veiled'? Latinos for Reform is a Conservative PAC. Please don't confuse the fact that "Latinos" is in the title for what they really are.

As for my reaction to the ad: Oh my fucking god. I'm not driven to the level of anger that includes violence by virtually any political discussion, no matter how heated. But telling people - lying to people - and finishing with telling them not to vote is appalling. It's indirect voter suppression.

Well one article I read had him saying that while he didn't want them to vote, voting democrat would be the greater of two evils basically. He said it in more of a cheap shot kind of way.

We've reached the point where if it's not illegal then it's fair game. Unfortunately in this type of enviornment - this kid of shit was bound to happen.

It's also insulting the intelligence of the target audience to suggest they cant see through the B.S.

Hmm. What you're asking is more or less tantamount to the "who is the target audience of these ads?"

Which is a damned good question, since I can see through damn near all of them. Add on top of that the knowledge that people are more likely to view ads of items they've already purchased - it's a well known fact that the people most likely to pay attention to an ad for Car Company Model X are those who *just* purchase a Car Company Model X, seeking to reaffirm the sensibility of their purchase.

So while I don't know anyone dumb enough to say "well, I was for candidate X or on the fence, I saw this Americans for Prosperity ad and now I've made up my mind!" - the ultimate question remains: who are the blithering dolts targeted by political ads?

I was tempted to start a new thread, but I figure this ties into this thread enough...

So, I was reading this article, wondering - what do you tell someone who is just completely unhappy with the political playing field?

Now, I know I'm very vocal about non-mainstream candidates (Herman Cain 2012!), but most people aren't. So what do you do? Vote for Guy A who says he doesn't care about you, Guy B who pretends to care about you, then doesn't or don't vote at all?

When have you EVER been anything other than a mere contrarian? A devil's advocate to satisfy...whatever it is you're lacking in life that makes you take to the internet to piss people off? You've never been anything but a Republican water carrier in these threads, and the idea that you're vocal about third party candidates is easily the most laughable thing you've ever claimed - and that's YOU we're talking about, a virtual top 40 of dumb-ass political sayings.
