CAGiversary!
[Note: About a month ago, I started a topic in Cheap Ass Lifestyle about places to find free, legal mp3's that turned into a flame session / debate over Intellectual Property law. Bottom line: if you don't care about the promotional deal, don't post.]

eMusic.com is an mp3 download site. Unlike iTunes, Napster, etc., it doesn't have partnerships with the major record lables. It does have a good deal of "indy" music (e.g., they have 2 albums from pre-"Dookie" Green Day), 1-2 albums from artists you've actually heard of (Bush - the Gavin Rossdale band....not the President - being the one that comes to mind), and a surprising selection of comedy albums available for d/l (Lewis Black, Dave Atell, Mitch Hedberg, Dane Cook, Jim Gaffigan, etc. Many thanks, Comedy Central Records.)

The few people that actually know about eMusic know it for their free 1-month trial subscriptions....and the free 50 downloads that come with it.

When digging through the items that came with my mp3 player (an RCA Lyra), I found a promotional offer for "100 Free mp3s."

http://www.emusic.com/lyra/

Following the link changes the "50 free downloads" into "100 free downloads." Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to allow you to go from 50 -> 150 by the way it's set up (I didn't try, unwilling to lose the '100 free' offer). If you want the extra 50 that bad, though....I'm sure some of you will figure out a way to get them.

Good Luck & happy downloading!
