Is anyone else having the issue where your CPU overheats while playing DA? I can't even get passed the character creation screen with out my computer shutting off. I've read some posts on the Bioware site and I'm not the only one with the issue, but instead of fixing this Bioware decided to make an expansion...cool

Anyone have this issue and successfully fixed it? tips?

Sheesh this is why people pirate games...

Maybe it is caused since Dragon Age is taxing your PC more than other games your have played recently. A game, or program for that matter, can't increase the temperature of your CPU directly. Unless it is slowing down your CPU fan (which it's not), then the only other cause would be maxing out the processing power, therefore increasing temps. When is the last time you cleaned your PC?

Edit: Are you sure it's overheating? It could be just crashing for different reasons, such as driver conflicts, hardware failure, etc.

Nope I play Modern Warefare @ max settings CPU goes to about 65

This game has been putting peoples CPU @ 100% idle, my PC was just put together so it's clean

I play the game in window mode and watch the CPU rise myself...at about 85 degrees it shuts off completely, it's the game

The memory leak is a pretty common problem. For me, it usually takes ~90 minutes or so for it to become enough of an issue where I have to restart my PC. I never had a problem so soon into my playtime though like you seem to be having.

First things first, when talking about PC issues with games we need to know what you have under the hood in order to help diagnose the problem. Your CPU meet the requirements to run DA:O?

Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 (or equivalent) running at 1.4Ghz or greater
AMD X2 (or equivalent) running at 1.8Ghz or greater
RAM: 1GB or more
Video: ATI Radeon X850 128MB or greater
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space

Windows Vista Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows Vista with SP1
CPU: Intel Core 2 (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD X2 (or equivalent) running at 2.2GHZ or greater
RAM: 1.5 GB or more
Video: ATI Radeon X1550 256MB or greater
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space

Recommended Specifications
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz Processor or equivalent
RAM: 4 GB (Vista) or 2 GB (XP)
Video: ATI 3850 512 MB or greater
NVIDIA 8800GTS 512 MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)

that sounds extremely odd, never heard of a game inducing a hardware crash, except on consoles [yuk yuk yuk].

i assume you have a multicore proc, try changing the games affinity to only one core and seeing what happens.

All the same your HSF should be able to keep the processor well within thermal limitations before the saftey kicks in regardless of load so something else you should test is running a few instances of prime 95, load them up and see if it shuts down. If it does you've got a cooling issue.

Also dont discount your graphics card. It will do the EXACT same thing when it exceeds its thermal safe zone. If you've modified it or if its been in your case for awhile [dust] take a look at that as well.

Modern warfare is not a taxing game comparative to an open world RPG. It even runs faster than World @ War.
