DREs on the new version PS2?

hutno

CAGiversary!
I bought my PS2 a couple of months ago. Today I went to play socom 2 only to find that that games and the rest of my games came up as a DRE. I had this issue with my old ps2 that i sent back to sony but this one is practically brandnew. and when I put the game in the lazer makes a clicking noise. Ive tried all of the solutions that dont involve opening the ps2. Has anyone else had these problems?

man, i've been lucky so far. I got a second gen. PS2 and haven't had any problems w/ it. I don't count the memory card problems, since it was a 3rd party card that needed a boot disk.

sorry I didnt see your post. Yeah its the 50001 that came in the box with the yellow + in the corner. Honestly WTF? And its all discs that have the error, not just the blue bottomed ones.

If it is only a couple of months old and it is already getting DREs you must have treated it like crap. I can just imagine the vents all covered in dust, the case cracked where you dropped it a few times, third party peripherals sticking out all over the place ...

Of all the systems I have ever owned, this one hasnt even left the shelf i put it on. Its in perfect condition other then the DREs. BTW what 3rd party peripherals stick out of your PS2?

it could just be that you got a bad one, it's rare but not unheard of.

The clicking was what my first-gen PS2 was doing after 3 years of use so it sounds like a candidate for a free repair.

Yeah it is always a risk when you buy a PS2 no matter what model it is, You would think a company who builds such good quality TV's and DVD players would make better game systems...

My girlfriend and I do international shipping. If you see the paperwork we get from Sony and talk to the people there you would never buy another Sony product again. I have a PS2 but that is only for exclusive games. It's terrible.

So is the new model the one that comes with the online bundle? I just bought that one and thought that DREs were finally taken care of. If not, this really sucks.

I've had three previous PS2s and all of them gave me DREs. This new one, I've literally mine for about a week and will go apeshit if I see a DRE again.

Damn. Hopefully your new one doesn't get broken too. That's exactly why I'm scared to take the plunge and get a PS2 of my own. All those exclusive games are so tempting though :?

I had the same prob so I tore the thing apart and cleaned it. Still no luck, so I tore it apart again and ripped out the Emotion Engine and now I have a $200 keychain.

The fact is every electronic device has a number of faulty units right off the assembly line you just cant avoid it. It comes with being a consumer.

Sometimes you're just going to get a bad device.
