This game a dream come true for bedroom DJs.  Yes, it is still pricey at $75, but it is a lot of fun, especially in a party situation as you can play 4 players and it supplies the music for your party.

  • Developed with Harmonix, creators of Rock Band and Dance Central
  • Fast-paced music mixing game that lets you create unexpected song mixes
  • Keep the music pumping with 3 ways to play: Freestyle, Clash, and Party
  • Includes 60 DropMix cards featuring music from top artists and popular songs
  • Game play requires free DropMix app (App only available in US and Canada)
  • Recommended ages: AGES 16+.4 x 1.5V AA alkaline batteries required. Not included.

Although the recommended ages say 16+, I play it with Tai (10) all the time and he beats me just fine.

Also, you can buy extra cards from the hasbro site with a 20% discount with code NEW17

I am interested in this but I am not interested in another piece of plastic taking up space in my house (Turns and looks wistfully at multiple guitar hero and rock band peripherals collecting dust). At 50 I think will bite.

I strongly feel the MSRP should have been $49.99. (and be on sale for $29.99 on black Friday)

Also: it most definitely shouldn't be hiding in the video games aisle. It belongs in the board games section of Target next to the other niche (ie: overpriced) adult games (CAH, Exploding Kittens, etc.)

Lastly: I hate the forced, interactive demo they have in-store; it's slow, boring, and just plain dumb. ("pull/drop this card, now this one, now this one...") They should have gone with the standard LCD-display commercial like everyone else does, showing people having fun with it and playing a good mix of music.

My buy price is $14.99 on clearance, give or take $5...I'll wait, it'll happen.

I bought this at full price and then returned it to get it at at the Amazon price.

The tl;dr is that I do see a good chance of this hitting 50 bucks at clearance or even just a sale and for a bunch of people that's going to be the better price for the typical reasons you avoid these things (novelty, eats up space, can't find time or reason to play). If you think you would like it though you'll probably love it as it does what it says it does almost perfectly.

In terms of the actual game I'm extremely impressed but here are my pros and cons as someone who actually bought this and not a blogger who go it for free.

Pro

-the techonology behind the game feels like magic. The NFC reads an entire deck without a ton of issues. The music dynamically changes with mostly amazing results (sometimes the BPM destroys the sample, especially with vocals). The game auto tracks all scoring, turns, etc. making the actual game extremely easy to follow.

-the board, app, and everything is extremely well made.

-the synergy of the music changing as you play the game is pretty amazing. It's weird to play a card game that makes you feel like a DJ in the background is changing music as you play to make play more dramatic.

-the song choice seems quite good, even as a curmudgeon who almost never listens to the stuff included.

-there's a decent amount of support for saving mixes though I'm not sure who the target is as people who want to actually make music probably want something more legitimate creating purposes.

Con

-outside of the base game it's a dollar a card before discount. Even worse is the cards are not made to handle the NFC embedded so they are warped out of the box.

-do you want to play a music game at a party through phone speakers? No?  own a good bluetooth speaker? No? Your board game just doubled in price.

-big plastic board, bigger than most board games and likely not going to store easily with other board games.

-it's a board game that is meant to be loud. The whole reason I bought this is to test this for a family member who loves dance music. His wife, however, hates the stuff so I'm not sure the game would ever get played. This game is kinda for a weird audience imo.

-the actual game rules are a bit of a mess. Everything is really simple but the strategy (in my two games played with my son) involved using a decent amount of randomness. Cards a incredibly simple outside of select few that are extremely crazy in what they do. It seems like play is going to be around planning and executing around special cards that comprise maybe 20% of the deck.

Sorry if this is useless info but I found most reviews glowing and uncritical. I'm happy I bought it at 75 bucks and I'm buying more cards but I'm a huge Harmonix fan and this is an interesting way to introduce some technical aspects of music to my kids.

Yeah, they really shot themselves in the foot pricing this so high. It's a great concept but was a bit ambitions to expect people to drop $100 on a card game. That being said, I don't have any regrets buying it. I just feel bad for Harmonix as it really had no chance at this price.

I've spent way more on a DAW (etc., etc.) and have nothing to show for it lol

$50's probably going to be most people's 'it probably won't go lower so I better get it' price

I'm also in the wait for sub $50 price camp. I might even wait for sub $40. The problem I see with this strategy is that it probably won't reach this price unless it's clearanced. I don't want it to fail and get clearanced out. I respect Harmonix and want good things for them. Not only that, but it needs to succeed if we want continued support with new content

Like most I am interested, but cannot justify the current price even at $75. Sub $50 is the ideal price for me, I sadly see this hitting clearance racks sooner rather than later.

Honestly, even if it was there's still 300 cards released already and for any enthusiast that's a decent set of samples to play with. As great as this game is it's going to murder wallets out there unless there's a meaningful price adjustment in cards or the base set. Having played more games yesterday with my son I can say its extremely fun purely from the novelty of the music but I'm still not sold it has a solid card game behind it.

It's in the Black Friday Best Buy ad for $59.99.  Much, much better price than MSRP.

I never noticed the official name of it until now: "Dropmix Music Gaming System".  That's enough confusion to kill it off without any help from the price.  Haven't heard the term "gaming system" since the 80s.
